Come, Follow Me 2022 Old Testament Resources and Insights: Exodus 14–17

Come, Follow Me 2022 Old Testament Resources and Insights: Exodus 14–17,

I have loved studying the Old Testament so much so far this year! The discussions I have had with my family, so far have been amazing as well. I think it is because the Old Testament, testifies of Christ. We can bring Him into our discussions.

Last week,  Moses and Aaron went to see Pharaoh. We learned about Pharaoh's hard heart and the 10 plagues that came upon Egypt. How because of the covenant with Israel and that the people of Israel listened to the Lord they were protected from the plagues.

This week, Israel has been freed from Egypt, but come to the Red Sea. With faith and trust in God, Moses parts the Red Sea and Israel escapes the pursuit of Pharaoh.

Throughout this blog post you will find images I create daily, which I am offering as free printables. As well as, insights and links to resources to help with individual, family and even class room study. Remember to check back throughout the week as more printables and resources are added daily.

Day 1:

As I was reading in the Come, Follow Me manual for this week, this sentence from the first paragraph stood out to me.

It stood out to me because, I’ve been impressed lately to record, my spiritual experiences. When I was set apart as Primary President, that was one thing that really stood out to me, that my bishop said when he was setting me apart.

I think that as we write these spiritual experiences down, it helps us to recognize the Lord’s hand and the spirit in our life. It can help to strengthen our testimony. It will help us to remember those experiences down the road and it will help us share those experiences and testimonies with our family members and descendants.

As I read about my ancestors, it is their stories of faith and their spiritual experiences that I really cherish!!

What spiritual experiences could you write down? What spiritual experiences have you read from your ancestors, that have strengthened your faith?

Day 2:

This week, we are discussing the miraculous deliverance of the Israelites from the Pharaoh of Egypt.

As I’ve pondered on this deliverance and what it means to me. I’ve thought of how our Savior is our deliverer. He has delivered us from sin, providing us with a way to be reconciled with God. He has delivered us from burden, heartache and sorrows, as we turn to Him and his comforting, strengthening and enabling power. It is by turning to Him that we can find peace in our lives.

I testify of this, because He has been there for me. Just right now as I think of Him and all of the difficult times in my life that He has been there, I feel of His love and peace, in this very moment as I write this. I testify of our Savior and that He is our deliverer!! ♥️♥️♥️

Day 3:

When I was a teenager, this quote was given to me in seminary, “Two men look out through the same bars; One sees the mud, and one the stars” (Frederick Langridge)

It’s a quote that often comes to mind when I think about seeing the best in a situation. Tonight we discussed the Israelites coming upon the bitter waters of Marah and how sometimes we might be faced with the bitter trials of life.

When we are faced with bitterness are we going to wallow in our misery and be filled with negative feelings? Or are we going to try to see the good, try to see God’s hand and try to face life full of appreciation and with faith in Christ?

For me it really does help to focus on the big picture. To have that gratitude for my Savior. When life seems to be falling apart and when you’re at your lowest of lows. Our Savior is something you can always bank your gratitude on. He has descended below all things, whatever you are going through, He has too. Our gratitude can be, that we are grateful for the comfort and strength that only He can give us.

Gratitude, fosters hope and hope can grow to even happiness. When we really count our blessings, we can see those stars and not the mud! Christ can bring that light into our life ♥️ I know that it is so hard when you are in the middle of that difficult thing & you feel all alone, but I testify, that you are never alone! The Savior is always there, just turn to him, have that hope in him ♥️

Day 4:

Of course, my topic of study tonight would be on murmuring. When I read it, I immediately thought, yep, this is for me. My murmuring today was towards the immense amount of work I had to do in the yard, basically by myself.

Often times we murmur because of frustrations, which ultimately come from unmet expectations. Plus, it also often comes when we are faced with having to do something hard.

Now my murmuring was not towards God or His prophets, yet still it should be something I should have avoided. Sometimes, we need to do hard things & murmuring, just doesn’t help the situation. I’ll have more practice tomorrow as I finish working in the yard, trying to do so without murmuring. 😊

In today’s study, I found a great article about murmuring and the importance of obedience and trusting in the Lord and His prophets. How many times do we murmur over a commandment or maybe something we’ve been asked to do? We see this frequently in the scriptures. We see it with the Israelites & we see it in the Book of Mormon with Laman and Lemuel.

It is our willing heart, that will help us avoid murmuring. ♥️ Willingness, to obey the commandments & guidance from our prophets, because we love God.

Here’s that talk, it is definitely worth the read:

Day 5:

Why is it that sometimes the most simplest things are the hardest things? The children of Israel were literally given daily bread, all they had to do were follow the simple instructions for gathering the bread.

We have been asked to do simple things every day, that will help keep us spiritually nourished and strengthened. Things such as our daily communication with our Heavenly Father, studying from the scriptures and words of the prophets, have faith in Jesus Christ, remember him, keep his commandments and daily repent. These things in themselves might seem simply insignificant, but in a whole and over time, have an immense impact on our life. For me, praying daily, gives me that time to draw closer to my Heavenly Father and to feel His love for me. Daily scripture study, helps me to understand the will of the Lord, to gain knowledge in His gospel and to receive answers and revelation for my life. Daily repentance is coupled with prayer and gives us an opportunity to strive to be better and draw closer to our Savior in doing so.

Each time we do these things we are centering our lives on Christ and inviting Him to be our partner in our journey.

We might not be asked to gather bread each day for our physical sustenance. But each day we can gather to the bread of life, our Savior and feast upon His word ♥️

Here’s a great talk:

Day 6:

I was just thinking about so many of God’s covenant people, such as the Israelites, the Nephites and even our modern day pioneers. I was thinking about the hardships they faced in life and what things brought them through those hardships. The answer is for them as it is for us, in our trials, it is the Savior.

Having faith in Jesus Christ instills in us hope. It helps us know that not all is lost, we have the Savior bound to us through our making and keeping covenants. With Him, we can get through anything, we can achieve and even conquer those hardships.

This quote just really resonated with me tonight. I have such deep feelings of love and gratitude for my Savior. I want everyone to know who He is and what He can do for them in their lives. It just takes having that faith and trust in Him 💕

He is our rock, steadfast and immovable and our living water, always there to nourish our spirits, always giving, always loving us! ♥️
