Come, Follow Me 2022 Old Testament Resources and Insights: Genesis 37–41,

I have loved studying the Old Testament so much so far this year! The discussions I have had with my family, so far have been amazing as well. I think it is because the Old Testament, testifies of Christ. We can bring Him into our discussions.

Last week, we talked about Jacob and Rachel. We discussed the importance of covenants and building ourselves to the Lord. We see that the Lord is very aware of us in our challenges and that he never leaves us.

This week, we will be talking all about Joseph of Egypt! The trials he faced and how the Lord was with him, because he was faithful and obedient. We also, learn about how we can have integrity and flee temptation as Joseph did.

Throughout this blog post you will find images I create daily, which I am offering as free printables. As well as, insights and links to resources to help with individual, family and even class room study. Remember to check back throughout the week as more printables and resources are added daily.

Day 1:

One of my favorite things is hearing the youth share their insights!! Whether its my own kids or the kids I teach!! They can bring the spirit into the room, by what they share 💕 Today, I LOVED what one of the kids shared about the faith he has in the Book of Mormon! His testimony echos that which is in the header of our study manual this week. It invites us to pray, that the Holy Ghost can help us apply the scriptures we read into our own lives. I know that we will be able to do that this week as we study about Joseph. He is such an amazing example of faith, perseverance, loyalty, forgiveness, and integrity.

I really, really love applying the scriptures into my own life. That and seeing how I can liken them unto Christ are my two favorite things to do as I read, study and ponder the scriptures. I also, am a firm believer that we receive revelation, answers and guidance in our lives as we study our scriptures and involve prayer in our study!!

I’d love to hear throughout this week, how you are able to apply the principles found in this week’s scriptures into your own life ♥️

Day 2:

I am so excited to study about Joseph this week with my family!! He is such a great example.

Some things that stand out to me, is that Joseph was not a stranger to trial. From a young age it was part of his life. His mom passed away when he was young, his brothers hated him, so much that they sold him to be a slave, and at one point he was falsely accuse and imprisoned. He went through a lot of stuff! But through it all he persevered, because he had faith in the Lord and involved the Lord in His life.

We can learn from his example, that no matter what we are going through, we can persevere because we center our lives on Christ. ♥️

Ponder on when you have been able to persevere through a trial because of your faith in Christ. 💕

Day 3:

I believe that, that time is now! Our prophet has instructed us to learn how we hear Him in our lives. He has invited us to be willing to let God prevail in our lives and he continually invites us to evaluate our foundation. How firm is our foundation, is it built upon the rock of our redeemer? Are we bound to our Savior through covenants? Are we living our lives in a way that the spirit can be present in our lives?

How do you receive revelation? I find it fascinating that Joseph in this week’s study, received revelation through dreams and the ability interpret dreams.

I find that a lot of times my revelation comes through an enlightenment to my mind. I especially find this true as I teach, when I serve in callings & even when I am writing these posts. We can pray for inspiration and for the Holy Ghost to be with us, to prompt and inspire us.

I love learning about the Holy Ghost, as a member of the Godhead & in perfect unity with our Heavenly Father and Savior, the Holy Ghost is quite miraculous. 💖

Day 4:

“If you have festering sores, a grudge, some bitterness, disappointment, or jealousy, get hold of yourself. You may not be able to control things out there with others, but you can control things here, inside of you.” - Elder Boyd K Packer

This talk has some of the best advice!!! We can not control the world around us or, even what others do. But we do have control of the things inside of us. Our thoughts, our feelings & our actions.

Let’s think about this eeek’s study. We see Joseph’s brothers let jealousy and anger get the best of them. On the other hand, we see Joseph, who really makes lemonade out of lemons. He makes the best out of each situation he is placed in, because He knows God. He also is such a great example of forgiveness!

Take a moment and read this talk, it is such a great one. We do not need get tied up in those negative feelings, we can choose to let go, to forgive, to see the best in others and in situations ♥️

Day 5:

This week, one thing we have even discussing is what influences are in our life & are we willing to let God be the most important influence. We also discussed the importance of letting God prevail in our lives & how are we letting Him prevail.

Those two things are important, because from that, our relationships with our Heavenly Father and Savior are strengthened. From that we live worthy of the companionship and influence of the Holy Ghost, which can warn us of situations we need to get out of. Joseph is a great example of this. He resisted the temptation of Potiphar’s wife, because he was willing to let God prevail in His life. He knew who he was and was living worthy of that influence of the Holy Ghost.

Think of a time when you have felt that influence of the Holy Ghost prompt you to get out of or avoid a bad or difficult situation.

This quote talks about bridling our physical passions. I love the Hope Work’s talk by Matt Townsend, that talks about how we are spiritual beings having a human experience. I think it takes effort to remember that. To remember that we are spirit children of loving Heavenly Parents. That the whole purpose of mortality is to work towards becoming like them.
