Come, Follow Me 2022 Old Testament Resources and Insights: Genesis 3–4; Moses 4–5,

I have loved studying the Old Testament so much so far this year! I have really had to dive in and be prepared, because I have started subbing as a seminary teacher. I have probably studied the Old Testament more this week, than I have in my entire life. The discussions we have had as seminary classes have been amazing. The discussions I have had with my family, so far have been amazing as well. I think it is because the Old Testament, testifies of Christ. We can bring Him into our discussions.

Last week, we studied about the creation, how under the direction of Heavenly Father, Jesus created the world. We also discussed how we are created in God's image and how marriage between a man and a women is ordained of God. And the importance of keeping the Sabbath day holy.

This week, we will be discussing Adam and Eve, the temptations of the adversary and the role of the atonement in our lives. We will discussion the fall, mortality and Adam and Eve's role as parents. As well as agency and what happens when we chose Christ and Repentance and on the other hand what happens when we don't. It's a fabulous week of study!!

Day 1:

I like to look at the fall, as a choice. A choice that Adam and Eve made to allow us the opportunity to progress. They fell, so we could experience mortality and strive to be like our Father! I am so grateful for the hard choice which they had to make.

Mortality is not easy, there are so many things, that as humans we face. Today, as I taught a few seminary classes, we discussed these mortal challenges, such as temptations from the adversary, physical death, spiritual death, trials, illness, disease, mental health concerns, addictions, pain, sorrow… the list could go on and on. But for all of those things, the Savior was chosen from the very beginning to be our redeemer, he is the solution to all of our mortal circumstance. Don’t you love the Savior so much?! I do, I love him so much and I am so grateful for all that he has done for each one of us!! ♥️♥️

Constancy amid Change

Day 2:

I love my Savior!! That’s what I wrote today on my paper. I invited the kids to write on their paper their thoughts on the Savior and His atonement. What the atonement means in their life. This was after they watched a movie all about the Savior, his atonement & God’s love for us. I wrote down my thoughts as well. At the bottom, I wrote those words, “I Love Him”.

I do, I love my Savior. I have felt of his love so profoundly at times in my life that it’s undeniable!! I love that He is always there! I love that He is my redeemer!

I found this quote from Russel M Nelson, it’s beautiful, “Paul said, “As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” The Atonement of Jesus Christ became the immortal creation. He volunteered to answer the ends of a law previously transgressed. And by the shedding of His blood, His and our physical bodies could become perfected. They could again function without blood, just as Adam’s and Eve’s did in their paradisiacal form. Paul taught that “flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; … this mortal must put on immortality.”

The Atonement

Day 3:

What was it that Adam & Eve taught their children?!? They taught them the ways of God, including the fact that they are sons and daughters of God. What did Satan say to the children of Adam & Eve? He said, “I am also a son of God; and he commanded them, saying: Believe it not;” (Moses 5:13) In my study I found that this means, “Satan commanded Adam and Eve’s children to not believe that they were children of God.” (From the Come, Follow Me Seminary Teachers Manual)

I liked this quote from President Packer, “No greater ideal has been revealed than the supernal truth that we are the children of God, and we differ, by virtue of our creation, from all other living things. (See Moses 6:8–10, 22, 59.)

“No idea has been more destructive of happiness; no philosophy has produced more sorrow, more heartbreak and mischief; no idea has done more to destroy the family than the idea that we are not the offspring of God, only advanced animals, compelled to yield to every carnal urge”

Knowing that we are children of God is one of the greatest things we can ever know. Not only that we are God’s children, but also, all of the immense love that He has for each and every one of us! ♥️♥️

Lesson 12: Moses 5:12–59 (Genesis 4)

Day 4:

One of my very most favorite parts of today, was sitting there in the classroom listening to the students tell me how, “the ways of God” are taught in their homes or even from grandparents & extended family members.

I loved making the connection of what their parents teach them, passes those things onto them & hopefully they will do those things and pass them onto there children. For example, studying the scriptures as a family, teaches our children the importance of the word of God and teachings of Christ. Also, spending that time together as a family, shows the importance of families.

There were so many wonderful things said today, that I wish I could share it with each one of their parents, so they know the impact and good they are doing & that it obviously means a lot to their kids. I can’t do that, so, instead, I will just tell you!! Keep doing those things! The family prayers, the scripture study, the Cone, Follow Me gospel discussions, the family history work, the temple visits and even the family dinners together, those things really do mean a lot to your kids! They are learning and loving that time spent together. It matters to them, more than you realize ❤️

I love this quote, because I wholeheartedly know that the teachings of Christ most definitely bring happiness into our homes!! 💖

Day 5:

My love and appreciation for my Savior has been right on my heart this week, as we have studied about the meaning and symbolism of Adam and Eve’s sacrifices of the firstling unblemished male lambs. Throughout this week’s study we have seen the love and mercy of the Lord.

I have thought of my Savior’s atonement, I have stood and bore testimony of what His atonement has meant in my own life. I feel so incredibly grateful that each Sunday we get to go to sacrament meeting, to offer up our “broken hearts and contrite spirits” and partake of those emblems which remind us of Him. Of His atoning sacrifice and the covenants we have made at baptism. My heart is just so full of such immense gratitude for the ordinance of the sacrament and that it helps us to remember our Savior.

In a world so full of noise, it’s nice to remember whose voice we should be listening for. The voice of the one who has bore our sins and sacrificed himself that we might live ♥️♥️

I feel resolved this Sunday to enter the chapel with the ordinance of the sacrament on my mind.
