Come, Follow Me 2022 Old Testament Resources and Insights: Genesis 1–2; Moses 2–3; Abraham 4–5,

It's always exciting when we come upon a new year and we begin a new study. This year we will be studying the Old Testament. I actually, enjoy studying the Old Testament, I have always been fascinated by many of the accounts of faithful men and women, who had only heard of the prophesies of the Savior's coming. Stories such as Moses, Noah, David and Daniel. Why is studying the Old Testament important? Because we are all linked together, each dispensation on time. We can be taught by the spirit as we intently study these scriptures.

Last week, we studied from Moses and Abraham, found in the Pearl of Great Price. We are so blessed to have these scriptures to complement each other and give us a greater understanding of  who we are and God's eternal plan for us.

This week, we will be studying about the creation, how under the direction of Heavenly Father, Jesus created the world. We will also discuss how we are created in God's image and how marriage between a man and a women is ordained of God. And the importance of keeping the Sabbath day holy.

Throughout this blog post you will find images I create daily, which I am offering as free printables. As well as, insights and links to resources to help with individual, family and even class room study. Remember to check back throughout the week as more printables and resources are added daily.

Day 1:

I love this title of our Heavenly Father and Savior!!! The title “Creator” ♥️ Isn’t it humbling to think that the God with such immense power to create worlds without number, is extremely invested in our life personally. It is humbling and also ennobling. It’s powerful to think that as we listen and follow the commandments of the Lord, then He can help us create something magnificent out of our lives. He can mend our wounds and broken hearts and enable us to reach our potential and fulfill our divine mission ♥️ Our life is a process of progression. Christ is an essential part of that progression!

This great quote was found in our study manual. “Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are Creators, and Their creative work with us is not finished. They can make light shine in dark moments in our lives. They can form solid ground in the midst of life’s stormy seas. They can command the elements, and if we obey Their word like the elements did, They can transform us into the beautiful creations we were meant to be.” Here’s the link: January 3–9Genesis 1–2; Moses 2–3; Abraham 4–5

Have you heard the youth song, “Divine”? It is beautiful and goes so well with our Come, Follow Me studies!!! We just have to know within our soul the immense love that God has for us!!! His whole plan of happiness is for us, so we can progress and become like Him! Here’s the link to the song: https://youtu.be/yfoU6tmNyQQ

Day 2:

I think the more I spend in nature and the more I learn about everything about this earth, the more firm my testimony is that it was divinely created!!! Created by our Savior, under the direction of our Heavenly Father!!!

We spent time as a family discussing the creation and why it’s important that we learn about it and how it is applicable to our lives. We spent close to an hour in discussion, the time kind of got away from us.

Years ago, I found a FABULOUS, article from Russel M Nelson, that goes through and talks about each day of the creation. I love the insights and clarification of this article & we used it tonight to better understand each day. I’ll link to it below.

The big takeaways for us, of why to study the creation and how to apply it, is:
- The earth and everything on it was divinely created. It was created for us, by a loving Savior & Heavenly Father. So, we could experience mortality.
- The creation was a process, as is our lives. It is a process of keeping the commandments and repenting and trying to be a little better each day. And a process of learning and growing and becoming.
- We learn that we are created in the image of our Heavenly Parents. The whole reason for mortality is to become like them.
- We learn to be good stewards of all that God has created for us.
- And, we learn the importance of setting a day aside for rest. To keep the Sabbath day holy and use it to draw closer to our Heavenly Father.

What things do you learn from the creation?

Day 3:

I was once asked to talk about marriage in a gospel doctrine class & I began by saying that marriage is not easy or perfect. But that an eternal marriage is a partnership and it takes work. A partnership between husband and wife & God. I take my marriage covenants very seriously.

I’ve learned so much from marriage. I’ve learned how to unconditionally love, I’ve learned to be more humble, to have patience, to freely forgive, to compromise, to serve, to make decisions together, to do hard things and to be there for each other and enjoy things together.

I loved this quote from Sister Burton, of the importance of helping, lifting, rejoicing with each other and helping each other be our best selves.

We learn this week that Adam and Eve were married eternally. President Spencer W. Kimball wrote:

“‘And I, God, blessed them [Man here is always in the plural. It was plural from the beginning.] and said unto them: Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion over [it].’ (Moses 2:27–28.)

“And the scripture says,

“‘And I, God, said unto mine Only Begotten, which was with me from the beginning: Let us make man [not a separate man, but a complete man, which is husband and wife] in our image, after our likeness; and it was so’ (Moses 2:26). What a beautiful partnership! Adam and Eve were married for eternity by the Lord. Such a marriage extends beyond the grave. All peoples should call for this kind of marriage.”

What examples of eternal partnership Adam and Eve are to each of us. We talked to our kids about preparing for an eternal marriage & how one way to prepare is to live worthy of and have a temple recommend. It makes me so happy as a mom when I see my boys go to the temple and when I see them do those things that keep them close to Christ & help them prepare to be a husband and father. ❤️

Day 4:

I’ve always loved this way of thinking about the Sabbath day! We can ask ourselves, “What sign do I want to show God on the Sabbath Day?”

I love how in our study it states, “God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it:) Genisis 2:3. To sanctify means to make holy. The Sabbath is a holy day, that God has set aside for us!! I actually love Sundays, they are probably my favorite day. A day where we can rest from some of the craziness of our days, to spend with family, to make a day that is a little bit different than the others & most importantly the opportunity to attend church and partake of the sacrament. The Sabbath truly is a delight in my eyes!

Here’s some great resources:

Day 5:

Something, that really stood out to me today is this scripture!! We realize how special that Sabbath Day really is, how very different it is from all of the other days of the week? The Sabbath has been blessed and sanctified by God ♥️

Where else do we hear the words, “bless and sanctify”? We hear them in the sacrament prayers on the water and bread. I love this connection between the Sabbath Day being blessed and sanctified and the emblems we take in remembrance of our Savior, being blessed and sanctified.

The Sabbath reminds us of all that our Savior has done for us and that as we partake of His atonement we can be made holy. Isn’t it just beautiful, the love that our Heavenly Father has for us, that He would give us such a special day. A day of rest, a blessed day, a holy day ♥️♥️♥️

Here’s a resource I just love:

Day 6:

I love this quote so much!!! Something, that really stood out to me this week as I studied about Adam and Eve, is that they complete each other. Man and woman, husband and wife are equal partners. Equal partners, who are beautifully different. Who bring their differences to work together in completing God’s purposes. Its such a wonderful way to look at eternal marriages. A partnership, a oneness in purpose ♥️ I think that, that concept can strengthen so many marriages.

I also love how in this quote it speaks of men and women working together in the ward and stake. I’m grateful for the opportunities where I’ve been able to sit on councils where all opinions were valued and sought after & there was that unity of purpose.
