Come, Follow Me 2021 Doctrine and Covenants 125–128 Resources and Insights,

Last week, we learned about how we can be a person that the Lord can trust, the importance of building temples and being welcoming and accepting of others.

This week, we will be learning about how the Lord desires us to take care of our families and that he understands our joys and sorrows. We will also be discussing ancestors and how we are all linked together.

Throughout this blog post you will find images I create daily, which I am offering as free printables. As well as insights and links to resources to help with individual, family and even class room study. Remember to check back throughout the week as more printables and resources are added daily.

Day 1:

We are sent to earth to families and we have been promised that if we live true to our covenants then our families can be eternal.

I can only imagine, the pure joy that the early Saints felt when Joseph told them about the saving ordinances that could be done for their deceased family members.

I know that the knowledge of redeeming the dead has helped me, as I have lost loved ones who had not gone through the temple to make covenants. But who have had them done now by proxy. That knowledge gives me comfort, that one day I will be able to see them and be with them again.

I love that this week’s focus is going to be on our families! The focus on how we can better love and care for them, and how we can do the important work for the dead, which binds us to each other.

For November each day I would like to share something I’m grateful for. Today obviously, is going to be families! I love my family and I am grateful for each member. For what they teach me, for the memories we make and the love they give ♥️

What are you grateful for?

Roots and Branches

Day 2:

Service and gratitude go hand in hand and they begin in the home! The more I study and become aware of the negative things our youth face, the more I learn of the importance of the home.

Service and gratitude with-in the home, help us strengthen family relationships. Positive family relationships help in the prevention of some of the things youth face, such as substance abuse. As well as, behavioral issues. One problem that seems to happen within the schools is a lack of respect. Respect for the school it’s self, respect for teachers, respect for each other and ultimately respect for themselves. I was thinking about gratitude and service. When we look outside of our selves and we focus of serving each others, then that respect just happens. Also, as we have a heart of gratitude, then we appreciate what we have. I remember one morning when one of my children in a prayer expressed gratitude for the opportunity to go to school and learn. If we are grateful for our school building, then we are going to take care of it. If we are grateful for our teachers, then we are going to be respectful to them. If we are grateful for our friends and classmates, then we are going to treat them with respect. This applies to many other things as well.

We believe that families are essential to our Father in Heaven’s plan and that He desires for us to care for our families. Tonight, our family discussed the importance of serving each other in our home & recognizing the good each family member does for us and express appreciation for that. Both of those things bring more love and harmony into our home. Don’t just assume that your family members know you appreciate them, really express it. One of my kids said something very specific that he was grateful for me for (which was doing gospel study with them). It made me so happy. For one I was grateful to hear that, that was something they were grateful that we do. And second, it made me happy that he recognized the effort that I put into making it happen. Is there something that comes to your mind, that you can specifically thank a family member for? If you do, they need to hear it.

For my sharing of what I’m grateful for today, it is my husband and the hard working & great companion that he is ♥️ What are you grateful for?

Day 3:

Sometimes, it can be frustrating reading about the unfairness Joseph Smith and the early Saints went through. But, then your read things like D&C 127:2 and see the positive outlook and the gratitude to God that Joseph shows, “I feel, like Paul, to glory in tribulation; for to this day has the God of my fathers delivered me out of them all, and will deliver me from henceforth; for behold, and lo, I shall triumph over all my enemies, for the Lord God hath spoken it.”

We will experience tribulation, even at times it may seem unfair. But during those times are we seeing God’s hand in our life? Have we we felt the comfort or strengthening power of our Savior? The Lord does not leave us as we are being refined, rather He is steadily there by our side. I am so grateful for the atonement. It took me into my adulthood to truly realize that because of the atonement, I can lay my burdens at the Savior’s feet. That he will strengthen me and help me to cary the load that’s placed upon me. What an enormous blessing that is! We can find peace amidst our stormy trials, because of our Savior! ♥️

Day 4:

Don’t you love this quote by President Packer!! In D&C 127:7, it says, “That in all your recordings it may be recorded in heaven; whatsoever you bind on earth, may be bound in heaven; whatsoever you loose on earth, may be loosed in heaven;”

As we do work for our ancestors those ordinances are recorded in the records of Heaven. In the scriptures it talks of how great our joy will be when we bring souls unto Christ. Often times, when I think of this scripture, I think of missionary work, but I strongly believe it also means the souls we bring unto Christ as we perform their work for them. That is why temple work is so important!!! Work for the dead is essential for those desiring to receive exaltation, who didn’t receive that chance to do their one ordinances while on this earth. ♥️♥️

Here’s a great study guide:

Day 5:

This may be one of my favorite quotes!!! I remember one time when I was preparing to go to the temple. We were going to go as an extended family at an end of a fast for a family member. I felt that it was so important that we each go through and do the endowment for an ancestor. So I got on the computer & started looking. Before we started looking, I said a prayer that we’d find those who were ready for us to do their work. This was back when you had to go through your family tree and look for the right color of temple, meaning that member needed work done.

A lot that we found also needed their baptisms done, so it was hard to find, just endowments. I had found all but one female. My kids were begging for dinner, so I taught my at the time 8 year son what to look for. I remember how excited he would get when he found a temple & we’d look & see if it was what we needed. Finally, he found her!! It was so special to take our ancestors, not just names, but really people to the temple to do their work. ♥️ I’ve always tried to be mindful of those I go through the temple for, but this time it was little bit more special. I love that Elder Bangerter points out that those we do temple work for are “alive in the spirit and are present in the temple” ♥️♥️♥️

Day 6:

Think about this for a moment…. We are all a part of God’s family. He loves each of us and desires us to return to be with Him. I think of my own family, who I love so much and how deeply I desire them to all remain faithful and return to Heavenly Father. I can only imagine how much our Heavenly Father desires all of His children to return ♥️

I loved what President Eryring said, “Many of your ancestors did not receive those ordinances. But in the providence of God, you did. And God knew that you would feel drawn to your ancestors in love and that you would have the technology necessary to identify them. He also knew that you would live in a time when access to holy temples, where the ordinances can be performed, would be greater than ever in history. And He knew that He could trust you to accomplish this work in behalf of your ancestors.”

We do live in a time where we have the best resources ever in history, to gather God’s children on both sides of the veil!! One important thing that we also need & that requires effort on our part is the influence of the spirit, the spirit will help us be better gathers!

What a privilege it is to be gatherers of God’s children. To bring our Heavenly family together, so we can be bound together forever 💕
