Come, Follow Me 2021 Doctrine and Covenants 124 Resources and Insights,

Last week, we discussed adversity, our Savior descending below all things, and that our adversity can be used for our good. We also learned about hope, accessing the powers of heaven and go forth and cheerfully do what we can.

This week, we will be learning about how we can be a person that the Lord can trust, the importance of building temples and being welcoming and accepting of others.

Throughout this blog post you will find images I create daily, which I am offering as free printables. As well as insights and links to resources to help with individual, family and even class room study. Remember to check back throughout the week as more printables and resources are added daily.

Day 1:

So, tonight, we ended up on the topic of discussing, what we want and what God wants & the importance of aligning those two things together. I want my kids to understand the importance of this, especially as they prepare for missions and navigate life as teenagers.

I found this excellent talk by Elder Maxwell. I really loved this quote, “if the Master is a stranger to us, then we will merely end up serving other masters.”

Is God a stranger to us, or are we working to know Him better each day? It takes consistent effort. I was talking to a friend the other day and I said to her something similar to this, that it is consistently doing the little things each day, that prevents us from making big mistakes or sins. I think it is because those little things is what helps us come to know God, they help us build our relationship with Him and become more like Him. This life is about progression, sometimes we lose that eternal perspective, because we are blinded by the distractions of mortality. But if we take time each day to sincerely communicate with God, to study and ponder the word of God and to remember why we are here, then God is who we will serve and that eternal perspective will begin to be more clearer ♥️

Day 2:

Integrity is an attribute that I just love!! When I was a young women, learning the YW values, I wasn’t sure what integrity meant. So I learned about it and it became my very most favorite value. Because if you have integrity, then you probably will be someone who lives all of the other values. So, I just aged myself with the YW values, but I believe that it is something that the youth are still encouraged to strive for, we all are!

In our study, I loved that it said how many of the men, specifically had integrity. I think it is one of the most important characteristics of someone who teaches or holds a leadership position! Those who learn from you or those who you serve, need to know that they can trust you. That they can trust that your actions will be the same a your words.

I absolutely loved the story that Elder Callister shares and the question he asks. Here’s the question, “Each of us might appropriately ask: Does our integrity, our honor, have a purchase price—a dime, a thousand dollars, the approval of our peers, some physical pleasure, or temporary recognition? Is there some point at which our integrity can be purchased? Or is it priceless—not for sale at any price?” You’ll have to read the story to give that question greater meaning. I’ll link to it below. But, it is something I have often asked of myself. Whether it be at the grocery store or talking to a friend and being tempted to gossip. Do our actions reflect what we say we believe? I think the greatest complement that anyone could ever give to me was to say that I am a person of integrity. I’m trying, failing at times, repenting daily to trying to live up to that!

Day 3:

Today, was really just a feel good day! My cup was filled as I watch local junior high students write down notes of positivity and post them on the windows of their school. It really is quite incredible the power words have, especially when we use them to build each other up. & I think that exactly what our Heavenly Father wants us to do!

Here’s my take on some of the things our Heavenly Father really want us to take to heart:

1- He wants us to know who we really are! That we are His children and that He loves us.

2- He wants us to know and recognize that everyone else is a son or daughter of God and that He loves them.

3- That as we start to see others as children of God, that we too will be accepting and have love for them.

Matt Townsend talks about our body, our mind and our spirit. Can we see past the body? See past the differences in appearance, the addictions and vices, etc and just see each other as spirit children of God, that we all dwelled together with God before coming here. It is something, that I know that I need to consciously work on. To see others more clearly with spiritual eyes.

Day 4:

Do you not love, every General Conference when more temples are announced to be built!! Can you feel the hastening of the Lord’s work?

Of course Heavenly Father wanted the early Saints to build temples & of course He wants us to continue to build more temples. His work and glory is to bring to pass the eternal life and exaltation of His children! Temples are essential to that!! ♥️♥️

Day 5:

In the lesson it invites us to ask Heavenly Father what we might learn from the verses of scripture we are studying in D&C 124. That, in its self takes trust and faith.

The thing that first stood out to me when studying was the phrase, “put his trust in me” (D&C 124:87)

Faith in Christ is essential as we are trying to put our faith in Him. It means we believe in the power of His atonement and all it can do for us in our lives. It means leaning towards Christ, believing in His words and living my them. It means choosing to hear His voice over the loud noise of the world. And it means strengthening our relationship with Him.

I know it drives my hubby crazy sometimes that I do my scripture study and these posts at night. Sometimes too late, like tonight. But sometimes that is the only time in my day, where I am alone & it is quiet. A time where I can really ponder on my Savior and His teachings. It’s when I can just sit and listen for the inspiration of the spirit. We can each find for ourselves when the best time is for us, to just be still and listen is.

I loved this talk by Elder Gong about trusting in our Lord. Our faith and trust is really put to the test when we go through hard things. For me, it draws me closer to my Savior, because I know how essential His help is during those times! ♥️ When things feel too much to bear, turn them over to Him. Trust in Him and lay those burdens at His feet and feel of His comforting love and enabling power 💕

Day 6:

Tonight, while I was studying the scriptures, this was the phrase that stood out to me, “prove himself faithful in all things” (D&C 124:113)

I found a great talk by President Eyring, speaking of the creation of this world he says, “That purpose was to give His children the opportunity to prove themselves able and willing to choose the right when it is hard. In so doing, their natures would be changed and they could become more like Him. He knew that would require unshakable faith in Him.”

This life is about becoming more like our Father and that requires faith in Him & in His Son. It requires us to prove ourselves true to our covenants. We do that by keeping our covenants, repenting and renewing them each week by partaking of the sacrament. I am grateful for the reminder of what my baptismal covenants are, as we listen to those sacrament prayers and partake of the emblems 💕
