Come, Follow Me 2021 Doctrine and Covenants 85–87 Resources and Insights,

Last week, we learned about, how we can have access to God's priesthood power and blessings. That as we listen to the Lord's words we come more unto Him and He will be with us as we are in His service.
This week, we are learning about the imortance of standing in holy places. Which means we are creating an atmosphere where the spirit can dwell. We will also be discussing the importance of listening and following the spirit and being a light to those around us.
Throughout this blog post you will find images I create daily, which I am offering as free printables. As well as insights and links to resources to help with individual, family and even class room study. Remember to check back throughout the week as more printables and resources are added daily.
Day 1:
We are admonished in D&C 87:8 to Stand in Holy places & be not moved. Where are holy places?? We discussed this as a family, a little while back I had read this quote by Sister Elaine S Dalton, “Anywhere you are where the Spirit is present can be a holy place”. We can create holy places in our lives by inviting the spirit into our lives.
The second part, “and be not moved”, reminds us to stand firm and not be swayed by the enticements of the world.
The adversary is relentless! He subtly tries to get at us in the things we watch, the things we listen to, the games, & social media & even the books we read. He uses justification as his tool. In the way that we reason with ourselves, “that songs not that bad, it doesn’t say that many bad words”. Or “everyone says that movie is go good, I hear and see worse things in the halls at school”. And so on. Ultimately the choice is ours. Are we going to choose the things that will invite the spirit into our life, or things that will drive him away. Holy places can be a safe haven for us, to get away from the world.

DAY 2:
I love family records, whether it being reading the records of my ancestors, or keeping my own family’s records. It’s just something I’ve always loved to do! I received a Book of Remembrance from my nana & papa when I turned 8, as a youth I kept a pretty good journal, now I document our family memories with pictures.
Tonight, we discussed the importance of keeping family histories. We even searched up an ancestor & I spent a bunch of time tonight reading through 42 pages of his missionary journal that is on @familysearch I learned that a lot has changed since he served, such as, we just give Book of Mormons away now, back then they sold them or leant them out.
I saw pictures of his family and was amazed by the resemblance to some extended family members!
I told my kiddos tonight, that the reason why I love reading the records kept & looking at pictures of our ancestors, is because it helps me feel connected to them!! I hope that my great grandchildren can feel that connection to me because of the records I keep!!

DAY 3:
“How often do you express gratitude to your Heavenly Father for the great privilege it is for you to have the companionship of one of the members of the Godhead?” I love this question posed by Sister Sharon G. Samuelson! It’s a great one to ponder. Do we realized what a blessing the Holy Ghost is in our lives? Do we express gratitude to our Heavenly Father for such a precious gift?
The beauty of the companionship of the Holy Ghost is that he blesses our lives in so many ways!! I have felt the warnings of the Holy Ghost. I’ve felt the peace and comfort that he brings into our lives. I have felt the powerful witness of the Holy Ghost, as he witnesses of our Heavenly Father, Savior and the truth of all things. I have felt that burning within my soul, that fills me with joy and brings my emotions right to the surface. And I have received the enlightenment in my mind. Those thoughts that prompt me to do good.
The key is to recognize the spirit and to act upon those promptings, guidance and warnings. I’ve noticed that it’s not always convenient, but as we recognize and act, we will notice the influence of the spirit more and more in our life! ♥️

Day 4:
Tonight, we were discussing as a family the parable of the wheat and the tares. In my study of the topic I found some interesting quotes by early church prophets.
President Woodruff, in 1894 said, “God has held the angels of destruction for many years, lest they should reap down the wheat with the tares. But I want to tell you now, that those angels have left the portals of heaven, and they stand over this people and this nation now, and are hovering over the earth waiting to pour out the judgments. And from this very day they shall be poured out. Calamities and troubles are increasing in the earth, and there is a meaning to these things. Remember this, and reflect upon these matters. If you do your duty, and I do my duty, we’ll have protection, and shall pass through the afflictions in peace and in safety.”
Wow, do we not recognize that we are indeed living in the end of days. That the gathering of Israel is occurring, as is an increase in calamities, all preparing for that second coming of our Lord.
What I learn from this is that we need to be vigilant and remain faithful. Our mission is to keep our covenants and help others make and keep covenants as well! Everything points to our Savior. I wish so badly that I could just take how I feel about my Savior and his gospel and just implant it into the hearts of everyone I know. I want them to feel the joy the gospel brings and that immense love of the Savior!! I want them to be gathered in unto Him!! ♥️

Day 5:
In D&C 86:11, “Therefore, blessed are ye if ye continue in my goodness, a light unto the Gentiles, and through this priesthood, a savior unto my people Israel. The Lord hath said it. Amen.”
I found this wonderful talk by Russell M Nelson, in it he talks about our connection to our forefathers, in particular the lines of Ephraim and Manasseh. He states, “responsibility for preparation of leadership of the world for the second coming of the Lord was assigned to the lineage of Joseph, through Ephraim and Manasseh.”
So, for those who are of those lineages, it’s our right and responsibility to help gather scattered Israel and to be a light to all 💕

I love this concept!! To make wherever we stand a holy place! That all starts my aligning our lives with Christ!
It really is the things we hear over and over again, since we were little primary children, that can have the most profound effect on our lives. Those things are, to pray to our Heavenly Father and to read the scriptures and words of the prophets.
We need our Heavenly Father!! We need His help, we need to turn to Him and draw closer to Him. The scriptures help us to input goodness into our thoughts. They fill our minds with light and knowledge. They are where we can learn the will of the Lord, receive answers and revelation for our life. Both of those things help us to invite the spirit into our lives.
We can make everywhere we are a holy places, by choosing to put Christ at the center of our lives.
