Come, Follow Me 2021 Doctrine and Covenants D&C 18-19

Come, Follow Me 2021 Doctrine and Covenants D&C 18-19,

Last week, we learned about the Whitmer family, in particular the revelations given to David Whitmer, John Whitmer and Peter Whitmer Jr. I loved the focus on engaging in the Lord's work and being called to assist in His work of bringing souls unto Him.

This week, we are going to learn about some wonderful things!! Section 18 we learn about how Oliver and David are invited to search out the twelve (apostles). We learn the importance of repentance, baptism and keeping the commandments. Section 19 is just a beautiful section of the Lord communicating to Martin Harris. We learn about the great sacrifice that Martin would make to finance the printing of the Book of Mormon.

Throughout this blog post you will find images I create daily, which I am offering as free printables. As well as insights and links to resources to help with individual, family and even class room study. Remember to check back throughout the week as more printables and resources are added daily.

Day 1:

How much is one soul worth?!? Everything! Our worth in the sight of God, is enough that He would send His perfect son to a fallen world, to suffer, unimaginably and to die, so that we might have eternal life.

Do we understand and believe that we are of infinite worth?! Sometimes we are so hard on ourselves, Satan’s forces are at work trying to make you feel like you are unworthy of love, that you are unlovable, that the atonement doesn’t apply to you. But those are LIES!!! You are of great worth, you are loved perfectly by Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and the Savior’s atonement is there for you, ALWAYS!!! It is there for all of us!! The first soul we need to bring unto the Lord is our own.  ♥️♥️

The second part of this is to recognize that EVERYONE’s worth of their soul is great in the sight of God. When I think about it, I know that we are all God’s children and we are of great worth to Him!! I know this but yet the adversary works on us there too! He pits us against each other, by comparisons, judgements, anger, gossip, and division. It’s so frustrating to me when I get wrapped up in any of those things!! My desire is to put off those things and truly be able to see others as God sees them!! I know that Heavenly Father wants more than anything to have all of His children return to Him! He knows us and He loves us so individually!! What a privilege it is to be invited to participate in His work!!

Ponder on these two things, what are you doing to bring your soul unto Christ? And what are you doing to bring other’s unto Christ?

Here are some great podcasts that I watched today: Follow Him Part 1 and Follow Him Part 2

Day 2:

It fascinates me to study the life of Martin Harris!! Did he make mistakes? Of course, he’s human. What makes me love studying about him, is how he exercised faith, humility, loyalty and repentance. What a great example!!

I marvel at his sacrifice to bring forth the Book of Mormon! Remember the time Jesus asked the young rich ruler to sell his things and follow him & the young man couldn’t do it. Martin, did it! He sacrificed his riches and his standing in the community to follow the Lord and do His will. I Love D&C 19!! If you want to love it, study it! Also, if you want a beautiful explanation of the communication between the Lord and Martin found in these verses, I highly suggest you watch part two of the Follow Him podcast! Dr Scott Woodward beautifully walks you through it & @hankrsmith & @johngbytheway give some great insights as well. I’m so grateful for all of the additional resources that really enhance my study!

So, my question for you today is, ponder on, what you’ve been asked to sacrifice to participate in the Lord’s work. Is it your time, maybe tithing or fast offerings, or giving up something to align yourself with keeping the commandments?? There are always eternal blessings that come to us as we sacrifice for the the Lord’s work ♥️

Day 3:
Sorry no post for day three! I got majorly caught up in reading a new book that I stayed up until 1:45 in the morning and missed making the post!

Day 4:

I think the D&C 19, has some powerful messages for us today!!

Tonight, I tried an idea that I’d heard on one of the podcasts I listened to. I had my kids all go and get things that were of worth to them, aka their treasures. Well, my kids are way to smart & knew where I was going with it or, really set their hearts on spiritual things 🤷‍♀️ I was expecting video games or money or other worldly possessions. But what they brought were, their scriptures, a picture of Christ, a cell phone, a paper with the word “gospel” written on it. We had them put them in a treasure chest. We then had them show everyone their treasure & share why they treasure it.

Then we talked of Martin Harris and the “treasure” of his property that he was willing to sacrifice for the printing of the Book of Mormon.

What “treasures” are we willing to sacrifice?!

I think of Martin, how hard it must have been to mortgage his farm. I wonder what must be going through His mind now as he sees what marvelous things came from his sacrifice! How many souls have been brought unto Christ and His gospel. How many covenants have been made. How many people have access to the Book of Mormon today. Maybe sometimes we might take it for granted. How great it is to be stirred to a remembrance of what was sacrificed, the persecution and hardships, as well as the faithfulness and perseverance of those who had a hand in bringing forth the Book of Mormon and Christ’s restored gospel! I know for me I am eternally indebted and grateful to Joseph Smith, Oliver Cowdery, Martin Harris and David Whitmer & their families ♥️ So many amazing blessings and eternal treasures have entered my life because of them!

Here’s a really good article about earthly & heavenly debts & eternal blessings:

Day 5:

It’s quite, almost peaceful in my home right now. Which has really allowed me to ponder on the word peace and what it means. For us to understand peace and feel peace we at sometime must feel it’s opposites. Which are unrest or commotion or conflict.

In D&C 19:23, we read this direction given from the Lord to Martin Harris, “Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.” Martin was experiencing some conflict and commotion in his life. He had tasted of the opposition to the Lord’s work even within His own home. His mind was unsettled about giving of his land, so much money, so much that he had worked hard for. He needed some reassurance, he was searching for peace. The Lord gives it to him in that verse of scripture.

We can learn much from that verse in our own lives. When are hearts or minds are unsettled, or commotion is overcoming our lives, we can remember this instruction from the Lord. He invites us to learn of Him. To study His life, His teaching, His example and trust in His spirit. Not only does He invite us to learn, but to act as well. To listen to His words and walk in meekness, being teachable and living by His teachings. Then He says, when we do these things, when we focus on Him, we will have peace.

I’ve found that for me, humility goes hand in hand with peace, so does having any untroubled conscience. Which means keeping the commandments is crucial, as is daily repentance, a daily turning to the Lord and reconciling ourselves with Him.

How grateful I am that we can find peace in our lives through our loving Savior!

Here’s some great talks:

Day 6:

Do you ever have this stirring within your soul that you were made for greatness?? You are!! We each are spirit children of an almighty God, our Father in Heaven. With that comes greatness, He has a work for us to do and we can have access to His power as we keep our covenants and engage in His work.

The great work, which we are born for in these latter days is to gather our Father’s children on both sides of the veil. Think of that, you were born for this work!!! I just love that!! It is the great work that Joseph helped usher in as he helped in restoring Christ’s gospel to the earth. It is the great work that Oliver Cowdrey engaged in as he faithfully worked as scribe for the prophet. It is the work that Martin Harris propelled forward as he gave what no one else involved could, to finance the printing of the beautiful Book of Mormon.

We will engage in this great work as we let God prevail in our own lives and invite others to do so as well. As we freely give of our love, time, talents and abilities, to do the Lord’s will.

Tonight, I had the great opportunity to listen to some members of our stake presidency, as well as Elder Mella from our Area Seventy. In the talks tonight there were the following takeaways, prepare ourselves, fill our lamps, so we can help others fill their lamps. We each have an influence. We discussed this with our kids tonight. They have an influence on everyone they come in contact with. What kind of influence are we? Are we one that points others to the Savior? And another take away was, the importance of Love, Sharing our light & Inviting, in the work of gathering. Our Father has asked of us to love Him with all of our heart, might, mind and strength. That is what propels us forward in His work!! He also has commanded us to love our neighbor, that is what helps us to be successful in His work. 💕 How incredibly blessed we are to live in these latter days!! To see the Lord’s work going forward and having the great opportunity to participate in it!! Our joy will be magnified, I believe with my heart as we do what we can to bring our Father’s children to Him! 💕
