Come, Follow Me 2021 Doctrine and Covenants 6 through 9,
Last week, we learned about what happens when we care more about what others think, than what God thinks. We also learned about how merciful our God is. That He will forgive us for our mistakes and we can still be called to His work. I really loved learning in all three sections, the love the our Heavenly Father has for His children and that if we have the desire to serve we can. We need to humble ourselves and have faith in our Savior.
This week, we get to learn a little about Oliver Cowdery and the work that the Lord has him to do. I love listening to podcasts that give me a little background information to how we come upon the sections that we are studying. I find it fascinating that the Lord was preparing Oliver Cowdery and Joseph Smith for each other.
Throughout this blog post you will find images I create daily, which I am offering as free printables. As well as insights and links to resources to help with individual, family and even class room study. Remember to check back throughout the week as more printables and resources are added daily.
Day 1:
What I love about the history of Oliver Cowdery and Joseph, is that Oliver was being prepared for Joseph and Joseph was being prepared for Oliver.
Joseph prayed for a scribe at the same time, Oliver was learning and gaining a witness of the great work that Joseph was doing. The Lord brought these two great men together, to accomplish His work.
Does this make you think about your own life? Who has been placed in your life by the Lord to help you fulfill your great work? Or who have you been prepared to help and work with or even be friends with?
When I was serving in young women’s and one time while teaching a lesson, I felt promoted to say, that there was no accident or coincidence that we were all in young women’s together. I felt like we must have all been friends in Heaven and were placed within each other’s lives to help with our progression. I will be eternally grateful to each of those young women and fellow leaders, for the influence and impact they have had on my life and my progression!! I have a special place in my heart for each one of them.
How has someone had an influence on your life?
I will be sharing a bunch of links on the blog! I watched a great podcast today and a couple great videos, one that we watched together as a family for our study tonight.
Here are the links to those things mentioned above:
Tonight, I showed this Day's of Harmony Video to our family for Home Study. It is excellent!!

Day 2:
What I’ve found is the Holy Ghost is key to revelation. What I love about the Doctrine and Covenants is that God speaks to His children through revelation. President Nelson said, “Does God really want to speak to you? Yes!” He also said, “The privilege of receiving revelation is one of the greatest gifts of God to His children.”
What a blessing it is to know that we can know the truth of all things by the power of the Holy Ghost. That we can study things out in our own mind, then humbly come to our Father in Heaven in prayer and asking in faith, and we will receive instructions and answer from God.
I love the talk I found the quotes by President Nelson in. It was one of his first talks given as president of the church. I LOVE the excitement in his voice and words as he spoke about revelation. The excitement for our potential of receiving all that our Father wants us to know!
We can each ask ourselves what we are doing each day to “grow into the principle of revelation.”?
Day 3:
I just really love this quote!! Sometimes, when we come to the Lord with a question, the answer is, you already know, I’ve already answered that one for you!
That was true with Oliver Cowdrey, he had already gained a witness of the work, that’s what brought him to Joseph in the first place & that is what the Lord reminded him of in what we know as D&C 6.
We too need to remember the times we have gained a witness or when our mind as been enlightened. We can hold tight to those experiences and continue in our recognizing the spirit and receiving revelation.
We also need to be looking for those revelatory experiences. Tonight, as a family we talked a bunch about revelation. We also talked about how as we study the scriptures we can receive answers. Certain scriptures will mean different things to us throughout our lives as we read them seeking guidance.
Have you ever had a question, something weighing on your mind, prayed and turned randomly to the scriptures for an answer? I have, it is a very powerful experience! I was asked to do this by a speaker beforehand for a youth standards night. Then, to come that night and share my experience. The question weighing on my mind, was how to be a better wife and mom. I sincerely prayed and then randomly opened my scriptures and started reading, the spirit touched my heart and to me those scriptures said just what I needed to hear. It really was a profound experience. For me this has happened time and time again as I have had questions. The scriptures have been a source of personal revelation for me. And I hope to help me children understand that they can be a source of revelation for them ♥️
I’d love to hear your thoughts!! What has stood out to you as we are studying revelation? What examples have you had in your life?

Day 4:
You guys, I’ve noticed that many are really struggling lately! Just in talking to friends, family and even friends on social media. The pandemic has been hard, winter is hard, life is hard. Our Heavenly Father knows things are hard, He knows His children are struggling and He is there!
I love that in D&C 6, the Lord addresses the fact that things were hard for Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdrey & little did they know how hard it was going to get. But He spoke words of comfort and advise to them.
The Lord said, “Be faithful and diligent in keeping the commandments of God, and I will encircle thee in the arms of my love.” (D&C 6:20) He also said, “Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.” (D&C 6:36)
This gives me SO MUCH comfort and strength during these difficult times. Our Savior suffered the very worst. He sunk below all, He knows perfectly how to comfort us and strengthen us! He will encircle us with His love as we fully turn to Him. I KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE, because I have felt His arms encircle me with love during my very most difficult times.
We need to rivet our thoughts and focus on Christ. Elder Kim Clark said, “We rivet our focus on Jesus Christ and His gospel by living our covenants.” We can do this daily! He further said, “We live a covenant life full of simple, everyday acts of faith that focus us on Jesus Christ: prayer from the heart in His name, feasting on His word, turning to Him to repent of our sins, keeping His commandments, partaking of the sacrament and keeping His Sabbath holy, worshipping in His holy temple as often as we can, and exercising His holy priesthood to serve God’s children.”
The Lord said in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
To those who are struggling, you are not alone, many if not all of us are in some way. We can be a strength to each other, by reaching out in true friendship. Above all, our Savior is always there!! He knows you and is near. Focus on Him, turn to Him!!

Here is another talk that I found that was great too:
Day 5:
Do you believe that God cares about your desires? As the father of our spirits, I whole heartedly believe that He most certainly cares about our righteous desires.
One of my very most favorite things is when one of my children want to just sit down and talk to me about life. I want to know what is happening at school, how they feel and what their goals are. I love to hear about what is important to them.
Tonight, we were testing out our new home entertainment speakers and my teenager joined the room, I know that music is important to him. So, we had him share with us some of his music to see how they sounded on the speakers, which then turned into sharing hours of music together, both music we used to listen to at his age & music he enjoys. I feel like part of being a parent is connecting with our kids and hopefully providing a relationship with them, where they feel like they can share those things that are important to them.
I believe that our Heavenly Father wants us to feel connected to Him. That we can turn to Him and share those things that are important to us with Him. To also understand that He can help us with those righteous desires. It is beautiful how many times in this week’s study of the Doctrine and Covenants the word desire is used. From that I learn that our Heavenly Father really does care, He cares about what we desire ♥️ I know that as I pray to Him, He is listening and cares about those things I pour my heart to Him about. I also trust in Him and His will for me, that He really knows what is best for me to reach my ultimate desire of exaltation! 💕
Here’s a great talk about Desire:

Day 6:
As I read D&C 7, to my boys tonight, there was a verse that really stood out to me. It was D&C 7:6, “Yea, he has undertaken a greater work; therefore I will make him as flaming fire and a ministering angel; he shall minister for those who shall be heirs of salvation who dwell on the earth.” The Lord was speaking of John the Beloved.
Two of my sons were lucky enough to have the same amazing teacher, at different times, in primary. This teacher gave each of them a beautiful picture of a young man studying his scriptures and surrounded by angels. It’s a powerful picture. I do believe that there are things happening on the other side of the veil that we don’t even realize are going on around us.
I loved this quote from a BYU talk I found by Donald Parry, “Angels can move about the earth conducting the Lord’s divine work, and they serve, minister, and
mingle among mortals, usually without our awareness.” He also says, “All angels minister with heavenly love, and every angelic communication to the Saints
is a message of love.”
We read and hear stories of the ministering of angels in ancient times, as well as in the times with the early Saints. So why wouldn’t we also have the ministering of angels in our lives, in these most crucial days, when the Lord’s work is being hastened and the earth is being prepared for His second coming. I believe that we do! Elder Holland said in his conference talk “The Ministry of Angels”, “I testify that angels are still sent to help us, even as they were sent to help Adam and Eve, to help the prophets, and indeed to help the Savior of the world Himself.”
Might we be more aware of the love and Heavenly help that is sent to us, is my thought for tonight. ♥️
