Young Women Virtue Personal Progress Activity: Toilet Paper Modest Wedding Dress Fashion Show

Below you'll find what we did for our Young Women Virtue Personal Progress Activity: Toilet Paper Modest Wedding Dress Fashion Show,

This is an activity our young women were super excited about. We actually did it as a combined young women's activity because so many of them wanted to do it.

Supplies:
Toilet paper
Tape

Outline of the Activity:

Set up the chairs in the room creating a run way. Explain that we are going to work on a little Personal Progress as we do this activity. We are also going to be designing some modest toilet paper wedding dresses and have a little fashion show.

Explain that in the For the Strength of Youth it states the following:

" Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? … The temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. (1 Corinthians 3:16–17)"

"Your body is sacred. Respect it and do not defile it in any way. Through your dress and appearance, you can show that you know how precious your body is. You can show that you are a disciple of Jesus Christ and that you love Him.

Prophets of God have continually counseled His children to dress modestly. When you are well groomed and modestly dressed, you invite the companionship of the Spirit and you can be a good influence on others. Your dress and grooming influence the way you and others act.

Never lower your standards of dress. Do not use a special occasion as an excuse to be immodest. When you dress immodestly, you send a message that is contrary to your identity as a son or daughter of God. You also send the message that you are using your body to get attention and approval."

Ask the following question, Why do you think that modesty is important as we are preparing to go to the temple? (We discussed how when we dress modestly it invites the companionship of the spirit to be with us and how that can help us prepare for the temple. Another leader pointed out how it will also make it easier to have already been wearing modest clothing, they won't have to get a whole new wardrobe when they do go through the temple and start wearing garments.)

The Personal Progress value that goes with the activity is Virtue. Read the following,

"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies (Proverbs 31:10).

I will prepare to enter the temple and remain pure and worthy.

My thoughts and actions will be based on high moral standards." Virtue

The experience we worked on was, value experience number 3

"Prepare to be worthy to enter the temple and to participate in temple ordinances. Read Alma chapter 5. Make a list of the questions Alma asks. Answer the questions for yourself, and make a list of the things you can and will do to prepare yourself to be pure and worthy to enter the temple and receive all the blessings our Heavenly Father has promised His beloved daughters."

Because of time, we encourage the young women to read Alma Chapter 5 at home and make a list of the questions and answer them. What we worked on at the activity was we gave each girl a piece of paper and a maker/pen/pencil. They were asked to write a list of things that they can do to prepare themselves to be pure and worthy to enter the temple and receive all of the blessings Heavenly Father has promised them.

After they were done writing their lists. We explained that somewhere there is a young man, preparing himself for the them and for the temple. We invited them to do those things they wrote on their lists and continually prepare for the temple.

We then split the young women into groups. We had five groups with four to five girls in each group. Each group was given 4 large toilet paper rolls and a roll of tape. (4 large rolls was too much, I would maybe suggest just doing 2 large rolls and having a 3rd available if they needed it)

The instructions we gave them was to chose one of the young women in their group to be the models, the rest of the young women would be the designers. They were to design a wedding dress onto the model. It would need to be a modest dress, so be at least knee length, cover the shoulders etc.  They could make accessories, such as flowers, etc. They would be given 30 minutes to complete the dress.

When they were finished everyone except for the "models" took their seats. Then one at a time we had the "model" walk in and show the toilet paper wedding dresses. It was so neat to see their creativity. The dresses were actually really cute! We said clapped and said good things about each one.

Refreshments:

We also had homemade ice cream. The girls loved it! Here is the Homemade Ice Cream recipe (It's my Muirbrook family's recipe)

  14. Very sensitive post shilpa …. clothing has nothing to do with rape, it is said that in one of the study done in our country, it was found that most women raped were found in salwar kameez and saree… instead of blaming women for their clothes, it is better to teach boys/men to respect women, which must begin from family.microblading training
