2018 Sharing Time Outline Theme: I am a Child of God

November 2018 Sharing Time Topic: We Are to Thank God in All Things

November 2018 Song: Consider singing songs that reinforce what you teach. This month some of those songs might be “Children All Over the World” (CS, 16–17), “For Health and Strength” (CS, 21), “I Think the World Is Glorious” (CS, 230), “My Heavenly Father Loves Me” (CS, 228–29), and “Thanks to Our Father” (CS, 20).

November Week 1 Topic: I am thankful for my body, and I know that it is a temple.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine. The most important thing is to love those you teach and to teach them by the Spirit!! Focus on building their testimonies and helping them come unto Christ!  (All printables for this sharing time can be found and printed by clicking the "Free Printable Download" button. They are free and can be printed and used for personal and church purposes)

Sharing Time Instruction:

Discuss with the primary children the things they learned about last week.

Sing "The Lord Gave Me a Temple", with the primary children, invite them to listen to what the song says about our bodies.

Invite the primary children to share what the song says our bodies are? ("My body is the temple my Father gave to me.")

Show the primary children the week's theme poster and invite them to repeat, "I am thankful for my body, and I know that it is a temple."

Read the following quote by President Hinckley,

"I marvel at the miracle of the human mind and body. Have you ever contemplated the wonders of yourself, the eyes with which you see, the ears with which you hear, the voice with which you speak? No camera ever built can compare with the human eye. No method of communication ever devised can compare with the voice and the ear. No pump ever built will run as long or as efficiently as the human heart. No computer or other creation of science can equal the human brain. What a remarkable thing you are. You can think by day and dream by night. You can speak and hear and smell. Look at your finger. The most skillful attempt to reproduce it mechanically has resulted in only a crude approximation. The next time you use your finger, watch it, look at it, and sense the wonder of it.

You are a child of God, His crowning creation."

Our bodies are sacred! Our Heavenly Father asks us to be thankful for them and to take care of our bodies. In the scriptures we learn ways we can take care of our bodies, such as getting enough sleep, avoiding things that are not good for our bodies and to eat things that will nourish our bodies. We can keep our bodies clean and show that we respect our bodies by the way we dress and act.

Print out the printables in the free download below. Cut them out and place them randomly under the primary children's chairs. Or you could place them face down on the floor and invite the primary children one at a time to come up and toss a bean bag onto one of them.

Explain to the primary children, that under the chairs (or face down on the floor) are some cards that either of the following two questions: "Why are you thankful for your body?" and "How can you take care of your body?"

If papers are under the chairs invite a primary child to come up one at a time and share their answer to the question. Continue until all cards are discusses.

If you want to give the primary children an example you can share why you are thankful for your body and something that you do to take care of your body.  For example, "I am thankful that my body lets me hear the beautiful songs the primary children sing."  and "I can take care of my body by being active and eating good foods."

Close by inviting the primary children to focus throughout the week on being thankful for their bodies and taking care of them.

  1. Yeah - I'm so glad you posted this. I love the idea of tossing a beanbag onto a question to answer - just the supplement I needed for my Sharing Time. Thanks.

  3. Kim, I look at your site every time it's my turn for Sharing Time. I really like the ideas you post and I can tell you've put a lot of thought into them. THANK YOU for sharing your time, thoughts and talents with us. This sharing time I especially liked President Hinckley's quote you shared - absolutely beautiful and spot on. I had the kids point to the body part he refers to (ears, eyes, nose, etc.). It kept their attention the whole time and kept their hands busy. I also liked your bean bag idea. I did it just as you suggested for the little kids. For the big kids, I had them toss the bean bag to each other. They couldn't pass it to someone who had already shared. You are my Sharing Time Angel. Thank you.
