September 5th Sunday Sharing Time Ideas: General Conference Activity

Ideas for September 5th Sunday Sharing Time: General Conference Activity.

Last year I did a sharing time based on the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve. I have updated it and thought it would be great to do for the 5th Sunday Sharing Time to prep the children for General Conference.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine. The most important this is to love those you teach and to teach them by the Spirit!! Focus on building their testimonies and helping them come unto Christ!

Sharing Time Instruction:

Begin by placing the letters to the word prophet underneath the primary children's chairs. (see the printable towards the end of the page for the letters) Ask the primary children to look under their chairs. Invite the primary children who have the letters to come to the front of the room. Invite them to unscramble the letters and put them in order. They can either do this by placing the letters on the board or they can stand in order holding the letter cards.

When they are in order, invite the whole primary to read what the word is, "Prophet". Ask the primary children what a prophet is? Read this quote, "[Prophets are], inspired men called to speak for the Lord" (lds.org gospel topics: Prophets)

Show the primary children the week's theme poster and invite them to recite, "The First Presidency and the Twelve Apostles are prophets."

Read this quote, "We sustain the President of the Church as prophet, seer, and revelator—the only person on the earth who receives revelation to guide the entire Church. We also sustain the counselors in the First Presidency and the members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as prophets, seers, and revelators." (lds.org gospel topics: Prophets)

Explain to the primary children that we are so blessed to have living prophets today, to lead and guide us and tell us the things of the Lord.

Today, let's learn a little bit about these prophets. We are going to play a little game called,
Guess the Prophet.

Place all of the pictures of The First Presidency and Twelve Apostles onto the board (find pictures in your ward/branch library or download them here). Invite the primary children to help you place their names underneath each picture. (See printable below)

In a paper bag labeled, "Guess the Prophet", place clues/facts about the members of The First Presidency and Twelve apostles in the bag (See printable below).

Invite a primary child to come up and pick one of the clues out of the bag. Read it out loud to the rest of the primary and then have the primary children guess which person it is talking about. If after a minute, they have guessed correctly, then show them which person it is.

Invite them to repeat the persons name and say what they can remember about them. (This activity helps them to get to know the apostles, so when General Conference rolls around, they can say, Hey I know that guy ;))

Continue this activity with each of the clues or until time runs out.

Give them each one of the papers to take home, that has a picture of the General Authority, a fun fact about them and a blank space, where they can write what this General Authority says at conference. (Or you could give it to them at the beginning and have them fill in the fun facts as you go)

Close by sharing your testimony of The First Presidency and the Twelve Apostles.
