Ideas for August Week 1 LDS Primary Sharing Time,
August 2018 Sharing Time Topic: Heavenly Father Hears and Answers My Prayers
August 2018 Song: “A Child’s Prayer” (CS, 12–13)
August Week 1 Topic: The scriptures teach me how to pray.
Preparation:
Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine. The most important thing is to love those you teach and to teach them by the Spirit!! Focus on building their testimonies and helping them come unto Christ! (All printables for this sharing time can be found and printed by clicking the "Free Printable Download" button. They are free and can be printed and used for personal and church purposes)
Sharing Time Instruction:
Begin Sharing Time by showing the primary children the scriptures, ask them what they are? (The scriptures) Then ask them what are some things that we learn from the scriptures?
Show the primary children the week's theme poster and invite them to repeat, "The scriptures teach me how to pray."
Explain that our Heavenly Father loves us so much, He is our Father and wants to hear from us daily. By reading and studying the scriptures we learn how to pray to Him.
Explain that the primary children are going to play a little matching activity. On the floor place the scripture word strips (See free download below). On the board have the following pictures: Child Bowing Head; Family Prayer; Church Prayer; Boy Praying; The First Vision
Invite at primary child to come up and toss a bean bag onto one of the word strips. Read it to the rest of the primary, then have the primary child pick which picture they think goes with the scripture. Discuss with the primary children what that scripture teaches us about how to pray and how we can apply those teachings into our lives.
Continue until all scriptures and pictures has been matched and discussed.
Close by sharing your testimony of the how the scriptures teach us how to pray.
Scripture: Genesis 24:26 Picture: Child Bowing Head: Discussion might include... that when we pray to our Heavenly Father we bow our head and close our eyes and fold our arms to show respect to Heavenly Father. It also helps us to better focus on our Heavenly Father as we pray to Him.
Scripture: 3 Nephi 18:21 Picture: Family Prayer: Discussion might include... that Heavenly Father has asked us to pray together in our families. Discuss that blessings that come to our families as we pray together.
Scriptures: Moroni 6:5 Picture: Church Prayer: Discussion might include... how we meet together at church and pray together.
Scripture: Matthew 6:5-7 Picture: Boy Praying: Discussion might include... That when we pray, we are talking to our Heavenly Father. We do not pray to be seen by others, or say repetitions, but rather we open our hearts and pray to our Heavenly Father, expressing gratitude and praying for our needs and the needs of others.
Scripture: James 1: 5-6 Picture: The First Vision: Discussion might include... whenever we lack wisdom we are to ask of God in prayer. Just as the prophet, Joseph did.
