Ideas for July Week 3 LDS Primary Sharing Time,

2018 Sharing Time Outline Theme: I am a Child of God

July 2018 Sharing Time Topic: Families Are Part of Heavenly Father’s Plan

July 2018 Song: “Families Can Be Together Forever” (CS, 188)

July Week 3 Topic: The priesthood can bless and strengthen my family.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine. The most important thing is to love those you teach and to teach them by the Spirit!! Focus on building their testimonies and helping them come unto Christ!  (All printables for this sharing time can be found and printed by clicking the "Free Printable Download" button. They are free and can be printed and used for personal and church purposes)

Sharing Time Instruction:

Begin by explaining to the primary children that their are 4 clues around the room, that will help them figure out what today's sharing time is about. Invite four primary children to find these clues.

One at a time, invite them to read the clue (for younger children read the clue for them). When all clues are read, have the primary children guess what sharing time is going to be about.

Show the week's theme poster and invite the primary children to repeat, "The priesthood can bless and strengthen my family."

Explain to the primary children that we are going to discuss how the priesthood blesses and strengthens our families.

Invite a primary child to come up and hold the picture of a baby blessing. Read this quote, "Every member of the church of Christ having children is to bring them unto the elders before the church, who are to lay their hands upon them in the name of Jesus Christ, and bless them in his name” (D&C 20:70) Discuss how this can bless and strengthen the family. (Such as it brings the family together, it shows the importance of each family member, baby receives their name on the church records, and baby receives a priesthood blessing)

Invite a primary child to hold the picture of baptism. Read this quote, "Baptism by immersion in water by one having authority is the first saving ordinance of the gospel and is necessary for an individual to become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and to receive eternal salvation. All who seek eternal life must follow the example of the Savior by being baptized and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost." (Baptism) Discuss how this priesthood ordinance can bless and strengthen the family.

Invite a primary child to hold the picture of confirmation. Read this quote, "All honest seekers of the truth can feel the influence of the Holy Ghost, leading them to Jesus Christ and His gospel. However, the fulness of the blessings given through the Holy Ghost are available only to those who receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and remain worthy.

After a person is baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one or more Melchizedek Priesthood holders lay their hands on the person’s head and, in a sacred priesthood ordinance, confirm him or her a member of the Church. As part of this ordinance, called confirmation, the person is given the gift of the Holy Ghost." (Holy Ghost) Discuss with the primary children how this priesthood ordinance can bless and strengthen the family.

Invite a primary child to hold the picture of the sacrament. Read this quote, "Today the sacrament is an ordinance in which Church members partake of bread and water in remembrance of Jesus Christ’s atoning sacrifice. This ordinance is an essential part of worship and spiritual development. Through this ordinance, Church members renew the covenants they made with God when they were baptized." (SacramentDiscuss with the primary children how this priesthood ordinance can bless and strengthen the family.

Invite a primary child to hold the picture of the temple. Read this quote, "In addition to being a place where sacred priesthood ordinances are performed, the temple is a place of peace and revelation. It is a place where spiritual guidance can be received for crucial decisions or concerns." (Temples) Discuss with the primary children how this priesthood ordinance can bless and strengthen the family. Emphasize that in the temple, families can be sealed for all eternity.

Close by sharing your testimony on how the priesthood can bless and strengthen our families.

    1. They are the "overview" for each ordinance listed on the church website. So they are not specific quotes from a prophet, but there are links to specific conference talks on the same web page. :)
