October 2017 Scripture: “And also all they who receive this priesthood receive me, saith the Lord” (D&C 84:35).

October 2017 Song: Your Choice

October Week 1 Topic: Worthy young men receive the priesthood when they are 12 years old.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine. The most important thing is to love those you teach and to teach them by the Spirit!! Focus on building their testimonies and helping them come unto Christ!  (All printables for this sharing time can be found and printed by clicking the "Free Printable Download" button. They are free and can be printed and used for personal and church purposes)

Sharing Time Instruction:

Begin Sharing Time by playing the song, "The Priesthood Is Restored"

After the song, show the primary children the picture of Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery receiving the Aaronic Priesthood. Ask the primary children to explain what they know about the picture.

Explain to them that John the Baptist came and restored the priesthood to the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery.

Show the Primary children the week's theme poster and invite them to repeat, "Worthy young men receive the priesthood when they are 12 years old."

Show the primary children the picture of the 12 year old receiving the priesthood. Explain to the primary children that a worthy young man who turns 12 years old can receive the priesthood and enter the office of deacon. Explain that as a Deacon they have certain duties.

These are...

You could invite a primary child to come up and hold each of the pictures as you discuss them.
Administer Priesthood Ordinances
Deacons pass the sacrament. (Picture Passing the Sacrament)

Serve Others
(Picture Young Man Serving) Deacons assist the bishop in “administering … temporal things” (D&C 107:68). This may include gathering fast offerings, caring for the poor and needy, caring for the meetinghouse and grounds, serving as a messenger for the bishop in Church meetings, and fulfilling other assignments from the quorum president.

Invite All to Come unto Christ
Deacons “watch over the church [and are] standing ministers unto the church” (D&C 84:111). They “warn, expound, exhort, and teach, and invite all to come unto Christ” (D&C 20:59). This includes setting a good example, fellowshipping quorum members and others, notifying members of Church meetings, speaking in meetings, sharing the gospel, and bearing testimony.
(Duty to God: Deacons)

The priesthood is used to bless others, we all have access to the blessings of the priesthood. We each get to partake of the sacred ordinance of the sacrament each week and renew our covenants with our Heavenly Father. We each can be a good example, fellowship and serve others, share the gospel and bear testimony.

A young man must be worthy to receive the priesthood as well as participate in using the priesthood.

To live worthy means that we are following Heavenly Father's commandments. We can use the "My Gospel Standards" to help us live our lives worthily!

Let's play a little game to help us remember the "My Gospel Standards" and how we can live a worthy life.

Give each of the children a "My Gospel Standards" Bookmark.

In a bag place a word strip of each of the "My Gospel Standards". Invite a primary child to come up, they will pull out one of the cards. They then will need to either act out that standard or draw it on the board, while the rest of the primary children try to guess what it is. (For Younger Children, partner them with an older child that can help them)

As each Gospel Standard is guessed, discuss it with the primary children.

Continue until time runs out.

Close by sharing your testimony on worthy young men receiving the priesthood when they are 12 years old and the importance of living a worthy life.
