2017 LDS Sharing Time Ideas for September Week 1: We are blessed when we keep the commandments.

Ideas for September Week 1 LDS Primary Sharing Time,

2017 Sharing Time Outline Theme: Choose the Right

September 2017 Scripture: “If thou lovest me thou shalt serve me and keep all my commandments” (D&C 42:29).

September 2017 Song: Your Choice

September Week 1 Topic: We are blessed when we keep the commandments.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine. The most important thing is to love those you teach and to teach them by the Spirit!! Focus on building their testimonies and helping them come unto Christ!

Sharing Time Instruction:

To begin sharing time show the primary children the following objects and see if they can guess what sharing time is going to be about...

Picture of Moses with the Ten commandments, Picture of the Savior, A sign that says, "Thou shalt not..." (See Fee Download Below) , Playing the song, "Keep the commandments"

After the children have guessed, show them the weeks theme poster and invite them to repeat, "We are blessed when we keep the commandments."

Ask the following question, "What is a commandment?"

Play the following video, "Why does God Give us Commandments?" Then ask this question "Why does Heavenly Father give us commandments?"

Explain that we have a Heavenly Father that loves us so, so much! His greatest desire is that we return safely back to Him. So, he gives us some rule and guidelines to keep us safe.

Picture can be found from LDS.org Moses and the Tablets, by Jerry Harston; GAB 14
Show the picture of Moses and explain that Moses received Ten Commandments that he wrote down on tablets, these commandments can help us do know and do what it right. Explain that all of our prophets have given us commandments from the Lord to help guide us and help us do what is right.

Pictures can be found on lds.org
Show the children the picture of the Savior and explain that he has said to us, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." (John 14:15)

Explain that as we keep Heavenly Father's commandments then we are kept safe and we are showing Jesus and Heavenly Father our love for them.

Explain that we are going to play a little activity to learn how we can be blessed as we keep the commandments.

On the board place the following commandments: (See Free Download Below for printables)

Keep the Sabbath Day Holy, Attend church and Partake of the Sacrament

Love thy Neighbor, Serve and be Kind to others

Honor thy father and mother, Strengthen Families

Be honest and true, show integrity

Live the Word of Wisdom, take care of your bodies

Explain to the primary children that you will have one of them come up and choose one of the commandents, on the back is a story/situation. Invite them to listen to it and then point out how the person was blessed from keeping that commandment.

Discuss with the children ways they can keep that commandment in their own lives and the blessings that will come as they do so.

Continue with each commandment and then close with your testimony of the blessings that come as we keep the commandments.

(Print pages 1-7. Stick pages 3-7 back in the printer so it will print on the back of the commandment pages, and print pages 8-12. Make sure the right story, prints on the back of the right commandment. See below)

Commandments and stories:

Keep the Sabbath Day Holy, Attend church and Partake of the Sacrament
Peace in Obedience
Application and discussion might include, that we can attend church each Sunday and renew our covenants by partaking of the Sacrament. We will be blessed to have our covenants renewed and as we keep the Sabbath day holy we will be able to come closer to our Heavenly Father.

Love they Neighbor, Serve and be kind to others
Audrey Makes a Friend
Application and discussion might include, that the second greatest commandment that the Savior has given us is to love others. There are things we can do everyday to show kindness and love. As we serve and show kindness we will have the blessing of being happier ourselves.

Honor they father and mother, Strengthen Families
A Bad Day
Application and discussion might include, each of us in a family has a role in strengthening the family. We can do so as we honor our father and mother and are kind to our siblings. Looking for ways to help and serve each other is another great thing. We are blessed with peace and happiness in our home as we do our part in strengthening it.

Be honest and true, show integrity
Abu Learns Honesty
Application and Discussion might include, many times throughout our lives we will be faced with the choice of being honest. As we choose to be honest by telling the truth and doing what is right, we will be blessed with peace and with a respect from others. We will have integrity.

Live the Word of Wisdom, take care of your bodies
An Operation on Joseph’s Leg
Application and Discussion might include, our bodies are precious gifts from Heavenly Father that house our spirits. We are to keep our bodies clean and to take care of them. That includes eating the right things and avoiding the things that will harm our bodies. As we do our bodies and our spirits will be strong, we will be able to do the things that Heavenly Father needs us to do.
