2017 Sharing Time Outline Theme: Choose the Right

June 2017 Sharing Time Topic: I Choose the Right by Living Gospel Principles

June 2017 Scripture: “I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them” (1 Nephi 3:7).

June 2017 Song: “Nephi’s Courage” (CS, 120–21)

June Week 1 Topic: I pray to Heavenly Father for strength to do what is right.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine. The most important thing is to love those you teach and to teach them by the Spirit!! Focus on building their testimonies and helping them come unto Christ!

Sharing Time Instruction:

To begin the sharing time show the primary children a picture of a child praying and a phone that says, Pray (see printable below). Ask the primary children what they do if they want to talk to grandma (or some other relative)?  

They call her on the phone. Explain that just like grandma (or other relative) likes to hear from them, so does their Heavenly Father. Their Heavenly Father loves them so much that he provided a way that we can communicate with Him.

Ask the primary children if they know what that is?  Prayer! We can pray to our Heavenly Father and communicate with him.

Ask the primary children if it is sometimes hard to do what is right?

Explain that Heavenly Father knew that it would be hard, so guess what?!? We can pray to him for strength to do what is right.

Show the primary children the week's theme poster and invite them to repeat, "I pray to Heavenly Father for strength to do what is right"

Explain that when we pray to Heavenly Father, we draw closer to him and invite the spirit into our lives. Heavenly Father can give us strength to do what is right.

To discuss the different ways they can pray to Heavenly Father play a quick matching game. Have the following pictures on the board: Family Prayer, Personal Prayer, Blessing on the Food, and Classroom Prayer.

Randomly on the wall next to the board have the following word strips, "Family Prayer", "Personal Prayer", "Blessing on the Food", and "Classroom Prayer"

Invite four primary children to come up and place the word strip above the matching picture. Discuss how in each situation we can pray to Heavenly Father for strength to do what is right.

Before primary place under some of the chairs, some situations where prayer can help strengthen them to do what is right.

Invite the primary children to look under their chairs to see if they have a paper. Invite the children that do, to come up with their papers.

Read the situation to the rest of the primary and discuss with the primary the importance of praying for strength in the situation and how Heavenly Father can strengthen them to do what is right. (see examples below)

Continue as time allows.

Close by sharing your testimony of prayer and how you can pray to Heavenly Father for strength to do what is right.

A friend asks you to tell him/her an answer to a question on a test: (discussion: It might be a hard thing to tell a friend no, you might worry that they won't be your friend any more or get mad. We can pray to Heavenly Father to strengthen us and give us the courage to be honest.)

You really want to play a new video game, but your mom has asked that you clean your room up first: (discussion: Sometimes it's hard when we want to do something fun, but our parents ask us to do something first. We can pray to Heavenly Father to help us to be obedient.)

You're listening to the radio and a song that you really like comes on, but you notice that it has some not so good words in it: (discussion: Praying to have strength to do what's right during the day, will help you be able to change the song to a different one.)

You and your brother/sister seem to have a hard time getting along:  (discussion: Sometimes it's hard to get along with family members, we can pray to Heavenly Father to give us the strength to be kind and find the good in others.)

Your with a group of friends, when one friend starts to say some really mean things about a friend that is not there: (discussion: Praying to Heavenly Father can strengthen us to stand up for what is right, even when it is scary. It can help you be able to point out something good about that friend and ask that your friends not speak bad or gossip about others.)
