2017 LDS Sharing Time Ideas for March Week 1: God speaks through living prophets.

Ideas for March Week 1 LDS Primary Sharing Time, God speaks through living prophets.

2017 Sharing Time Outline Theme: Choose the Right

March 2017 Sharing Time Topic: Living Prophets Teach Me to Choose the Right

March 2017 Scripture: “O, remember, my son, and learn wisdom in thy youth; yea, learn in thy youth to keep the commandments of God” (Alma 37:35).

March 2017 Song:  “Stand for the Right” (CS, 159)

March Week 1 Topic: God speaks through living prophets.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine.

Sharing Time Instruction:

To begin Sharing Time place the word strips for the scripture Amos 3:7 onto the board. (See Free Download Button Below) Invite the primary children to say the scripture with you. Take away one of the words and say the scripture again. Continue taking away a word and saying the scripture, until all of the words are gone and you can say the scripture together as a group.

Show the primary children the week's theme poster and invite the children to repeat, "God Speaks through living prophets". (See Free Download Button below)

Place the pictures of the First Presidency and the Quorum on the twelve apostles on the board. Check your ward library for the pictures or you can download them here.  Explain that in the Bible and Book of Mormon we learn about what God spoke to the ancient prophets.

Further explain that when the church was restored to the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith, so were the keys of prophesy and revelation. Explain that the men up on the board, are prophets, seers and revelators. Our Heavenly Father speaks to us through our prophet and his apostles.

Ask the primary children what is coming up, where we get to hear from the prophet and his apostles??  Answer General Conference!!

Explain that we are going to play a little matching game.

For the game place 15 cups on the ground, in each of the cups place a word strip that says part of a conference talk from one of the 12 apostles or First Presidency members (See Free Download button below).

Invite a primary child to come up and try to toss a little ping pong type ball into one of the cups. Which ever cup it lands in take the word strip out. Read the quote including the apostle/prophets name and invite the primary children to match the quote with the picture up on the board. This activity will help the primary children put the names of the apostles/prophet's with their faces, and learn what God has spoke to us through His prophets.

Discuss the quote, what we can learn from it and how we can apply it into our lives.

Continue inviting a child up to toss the ball, read and match the quote and discuss. Do this until time is almost out. You will most likely not be able to match all of the quotes and apostles/prophets before time runs out, just do as many as you can.

Close by sharing your testimony on how God speaks through living prophets and encourage the primary children to prepare for General Conference. So they will be able to listen to what God has to say to them, through our living prophets.

  2. I love how your ideas enhance what is in the sharing time outline for 2017. I'm excited to see what you are thinking for the rest of the weeks. This one seems as if the cup activity will go with week 3. I'm going to be out of town and I'm trying to help out the PP by having things ready for her.

    1. I do have some pages that I have done the past few years, if you click on the general conference label down at the bottom of the page, you should be able to see last years. If I can find some time, I'll probably put another one together for this year. For primary it seems easiest to just give them a page with a bunch of activities on it, especially if you have a large primary. ;)

    2. I used an Easter egg for the ball and the kids enjoyed trying to make it in a cup. The quotes were perfect and even the teachers had fun trying to remember who was who on the matching part. Thank you again, I will definitely be coming back for more ideas. Jr. primary was a little more tricky because they don't read, but the teachers helped, Sr. Primary enjoyed the game immensely.
