2016 LDS Sharing Time Ideas for November Week 3: I can show reverence for sacred places and things.

2016 Sharing Time Outline Theme: "I Know the Scriptures Are True"

November 2016 Sharing Time Topic: Reverence Is Love and Respect for God

November 2016 Scripture: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind” (Matthew 22:37).

November 2016 Song:  Your Choice

November Week 3 Topic: I can show reverence for sacred places and things.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine.

Sharing Time Instruction:

To begin Sharing Time, explain to the primary children that you are going to do a little experiement with them. For the first part of the experiment invite them to turn to their neighbor and start telling them about what they did yesterday.  While they are talking drop a quarter onto the floor. Stop the primary children and ask them what they could hear as they were talking? Could they hear anything else besides the person talking to them?

Next, explain that for the next part of the experiment you will need them to close their eyes and be as quiet and sit as still as they can. Explain that you need them to listen very carefully and when they hear a sound, invite them to quietly raise their hand. When they have followed your directions. Drop the quarter again. Invite the children to open their eyes. Ask them if they were able to hear the quarter drop.

Explain that sometimes in order for us to hear the Spirit we need to be quiet, still, and carefully listening. Further explain that there are there are certain place and things that are sacred. In these places we need to show reverence.

Show the primary children the week's theme poster and invite them to repeat, "I can show reverence for sacred places and things."

Ask the primary children to remind you what reverence is. Reverence is love and respect for God. So when we show reverence for sacred places and things we are showing love and respect to our Heavenly Father and those things.

Show the primary children a picture of the Savior. Ask the primary children to explain how they feel as they look at the picture. Explain that something that can help us be reverent is to picture and think of the Savior and then show our love and respect for Him.

Explain that we are going to do a little activity to help us learn with each other how to show reverence in sacred place and to sacred things. On the board place several pictures (see below), either place them face down, or place a paper over top to cover them.

Explain that you are going to invite a primary child to come up and choose a picture. Turn it over or uncover it. Ask the primary children what the picture is of? Ask them why the item is sacred? Then ask them what are things they can do, to show their reverence for that thing, or at that place? Example: If the picture is the picture of the scriptures, discussion could include, the scriptures are sacred because they are the word of God, given to us by our Heavenly Father's prophets. They are sacred instructions that teach us how to return to our Heavenly Father. We can show reverence towards them, by handling them with care. I won't through them around. I will carry them respectfully. I will read them with reverence and respect.

Continue inviting a primary child up, have them pick a picture and discuss it.

Close by sharing your testimony of showing reverence for sacred places and things. Invite the primary children to focus on showing their reverence in the church, in primary, during sacrament meeting, in the chapel, etc.
