2016 LDS Sharing Time Ideas for July Week 4: I can prepare to be worthy to go to the temple.

2016 Sharing Time Outline Theme: "I Know the Scriptures Are True"

July 2016 Sharing Time Topic: The Temple Is a House of God

July 2016 Scripture:
“Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally” (“The Family: A Proclamation to the World,” paragraph 3).

July 2016 Song:  “I Love to See the Temple” (CS 95)

July Week 4 Topic: I can prepare to be worthy to go to the temple.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine.

Sharing Time Instruction:

Begin Sharing Time by asking the primary children what they want to be when they grow up? Explain that to become what we want to be we usually have to PREPARE. So, if you want to be a doctor, you will need to do what? You will need to study hard and do well at school, so you can get accepted into a college. Then you will need to study hard still and learn the things you will need to know to become a doctor.  If you wanted to be a chef (or insert some other thing the children said they wanted to be) when you grow-up, what are some things you would need to do to prepare? (For a chef you would probably need to learn how to cook. You would need to practice cooking. Learn how to read a recipe, etc.)

Explain that there is something that each of us is PREPARING for right now!

Show the primary children the week's theme poster and invite them to repeat: "I Can Prepare To Be Worthy to go to the Temple." Ask the primary children, what they are preparing for?  To Be Worthy to go to the TEMPLE.

Explain that just as a doctor would have to prepare himself to be accepted into a college. Each of us has to prepare to be worthy to enter the temple. Only those who are worthy will be qualified to enter the Holy Temple.

Show a picture of the temple and place it towards the top of the board. Explain that we are going to discuss some ways we can PREPARE to be WORTHY to enter the temple.

Show the Primary children a copy of the Faith in God booklet. Explain that on the back of the booklet are "My Gospel Standards". These are standards that they can start now to live their lives by so they can be always worthy and prepared to enter the temple.

In a bag place the "My Gospel Standards" papers (see free download above) except for the big one, save that for last.  Invite a primary child to come up and choose one of the papers invite them to place it onto the board away from the temple picture (you will be making a path to the temple with the cards).  Invite the primary child to read or you can read the standard. Invite the primary children to share how they can commit to follow that standard. You could give them an example (I commit to choose the right. When I am faced with a choice I can choose what my Heavenly Father would want me to do. I also know that if I make a mistake I can repent and be forgiven for what I have done)

Continue with each standard card, forming a path to the temple. Invite a primary child to come up and place the last standard (the large one that says, ''I will live now to be worthy to go to the temple and do my part to have an eternal family" Discuss how the primary children can live this standard in their lives.

Conclude by sharing your testimony on the importance of the temple and how the "My Gospel Standards" can help them to prepare to be worthy of entering the temple.  (Or you could invite someone else, like the bishopric to do so.)

If you would like you could also give each of the primary children a copy of the "My Gospel Standards" and invite them to write on the back at least one of the standards they commit to do.

Added BONUS option!  If you'd like to play a matching game with the My Gospel standards you can either print out the cards with just the wordage or I have made some with pictures (this might be helpful for the little Jr. Primary kiddos!! Here is the download. * Some people have requested a larger printable. Here is the download for that. Note that you will need to print too of the larger printable to make it a matching game.

  5. As a new Primary President at a Branch that does not have enough active adults to provide me any counselors or teachers, you have no idea what kind of life saver you are! I have 10-15 kids for both hours each Sunday, along with running my own home and being a Mother myself. I come to you weekly to help me set the mood of sharing time. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
