5 WaYs to Make the Sabbath Day #HisDay

I love that our Heavenly Father in all of His wisdom has given us the Sabbath Day! I have to say that it is my favorite day of the week!  Why?? Because it is a day that I can rest from worldly affairs, I don't need to worry about going to the store or working. Instead I can focus on my Heavenly Father, Savior, my calling, my family and spiritual growth. How can we make the Sabbath Day #HisDay?

Check out this video:

Here are ways that my family and I make the Sabbath day #HisDay

#1

Preparation

In all honesty this is actually one that I am committing to work on.  I love the primary song I learned as a child, "Saturday". I love that is says, that Saturday is a special day, because it is the day we prepare for the Sabbath day. We can use Saturday, to make sure we have everything ready for Sunday, so Sunday can be less stressful. In our home, it is not odd to be scrambling to find church clothes, or finishing up lessons. These are things that could so easily be done on Saturday instead.

#2

Attend Church & Partake of the Sacrament

The best thing we can do on the Sabbath day is attend our church meetings and especially the partaking our the Sacrament. This is something that I need in my week. I am constantly making mistakes throughout the week and what a blessing it is to know that I can repent and then come and partake of the sacrament and renew my baptismal covenants. I love coming together as disciples of Christ and learning from each other of our Savior, His gospel and our Father in Heaven. I feel so refreshed and ready to conquer the week.

Family

I feel like the Sabbath day is a perfect day to build family relationships! Something I love about Sundays is we gather together with our extended families. We alternate weeks, one week we will gather with my side of the family and the next week will be my hubby's side. Yes, I realize that not everyone can do this due to proximity of family members. But everyone can put that focus on building family relationships. If you have family members who live far away, send them a video message, give them a phone call or Face time or Skype them. Are families are central to our Heavenly Father's plan, I am sure he want us to develop those relationships with them.

#4

Spiritual Growth

Spend some time to ponder.... Scripture study, reading conference talks, watching Mormon Messages, reading patriarchal blessing, doing a self-evaluation, writing in your journal, listen to uplifting music, are just some few ideas of what to do. Ask yourself, what can I do today to grow closer to my Heavenly Father and Savior.

Service

Our Savior has asked us to be His hands, to love and serve others. One important service is that of Family History. There is something about reading stories about ancestors that makes you feel a connection with that person. Think of all the ways you could reach out to someone, to let them know that they are important and loved, and how appreciative you are of them. I know moms and grandmas love homemade cards of love. Could you bake some cookies as a family and take them to a neighbor?  Everyone needs to feel loved, what can you do?

Thanks so much for stopping by!! I hope that you have found these ideas useful, I would love to here how you and your family make the Sabbath day His day! Leave me a comment below and post your pics and ideas on social media with the hashtag #HisDay.

  1. Preparation- that's the key for me. When I have dinner planned, and other things done it is so much nicer. We've been doing a lot of family history lately as we've been inspired with watching Relative Race. It's been a great way to spend our Sabbath.

  4. We try to make Sunday a special day by not doing things that we do on other days. We try to put all electronics away and focus on things that will bring us closer to Christ. Great list of ideas, thanks for sharing. :)

  5. Once a month we have a dinner on Sunday to celebrate all the family birthdays with my in-laws. We also set aside time after my husband comes home from appointments to do family activities that are Sunday appropriate.
