2016 Sharing Time Outline Theme: "I Know the Scriptures Are True"

June 2016 Scripture: “We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Articles of Faith 1:4).

June 2016 Song:  Your Choice

June Week 1 Topic: Faith in Jesus Christ leads us to love Him, trust Him, and keep His commandments.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine.

Sharing Time Instruction:
A painting by Robert T. Barrett depicting Christ in white and red robes, standing on the water and reaching out to Peter, who is sinking.
Image can be downloaded from LDS.org (Christ Walking on Water, by Robert T. Barrett; GAK 243 )
Before primary place the following items in a bag or box: A heart (love him), Christ Walking on Water (trust him), and some scriptures (Keep His commandments). Make sure nobody can see inside of the box or bag.

To begin sharing time show the primary children the bag or box. Explain that inside of the box/bag are three items. Ask the primary children if they believe what you say? Ask them why or why not?

Show the primary children the sign that says FAITH. Invite the primary children to explain what faith is. Explain that when we have faith in something we believe in it without seeing it.  Just like you believed that there are three items in this bag, although you can not see them. What are some other things we can believe in without seeing them?  Ideas might be... the sun rising, a seed growing, air, etc.

Show the primary children the "in Jesus Christ leads us to" poster. Ask the primary children what it means to have Faith in Jesus Christ?  It means we believe and put our trust in him.

Attach a string onto the bottom of the "in Jesus Christ leads us to" poster.  Pull out of the bag, the heart and attach the word strip "love him" onto the string. Explain that as we have faith in the Savior, we understand all that He has done for us. Knowing all of this lead us to love him. Ask the primary children how they can love the Savior?

Attach another string onto the bottom of the "in Jesus Christ leads us to" poster. Pull out of the bag the picture of Jesus walking on water. Place the word strip "trust him" onto another string. Explain that as we have faith in the Savior we will trust him to take away our burdens. We will trust that he has atoned for our sins. As we trust him we will grow closer to him as we turn to him for comfort and forgiveness. Ask the primary children how they can show their trust in the Savior?

Attach another string onto the bottom of the "in Jesus Christ leads us to" poster. Pull out of the bag the scriptures. Ask they primary children what they are? Explain that in the scriptures are God's laws, his commandments. These commandments tell us what we need to do in our lives to return to live with our Heavenly Father. Explain that as we have faith in the Savior we will have a desire to keep all of these commandments. We will want to because we will understand that the commandments are there to keep us on the safe path to returning to our Savior.

Show the Month's theme poster, or just use the posters already on the board and invite the primary children to repeat, "Faith in Jesus Christ leads us to love Him, trust Him, and keep His commandments."

Activity:  Hand one of the primary children a small stuffed item, it could be a stuffed fabric heart or a bean bag. Explain that as the song, "I Will Follow Him in Faith", plays you want them to listen to the words. As they listen they need to pass the object onto the person sitting next to them. When the music stops who ever is holding the item will say a way the can Love Christ, or Show they Trust Him, or a commandment they could keep. After they answer, start the music again and have them pass it on to the next person. Continue the game as along as time allows.

To conclude share your testimony on the topic and invite them throughout the week to look for ways they can show their love and trust in the Savior and keep His commandments.

  6. You do an amazing job in putting things together to connect them to the principle to be taught. After being teaching RS for a while, it is hard for me to teach little children . It requires more creativity and to simplify in a way the children will understand and feel. Thank you for sharing your creativity and inspiration in these lessons. It has been helpful! :)
