Family Home Evening on How Snowflakes are Unique and So are We!

For tonight's Family Home Evening the topic in which I have chosen is:

How Snowflakes are Unique and So are We!

Preparation: I hope and pray that you can use these ideas as a guideline and adjust them to the needs of your own specific family.  Our prophet President Monson says, "We cannot afford to neglect this heaven-inspired program. It can bring spiritual growth to each member of the family, helping him or her to withstand the temptations which are everywhere. The lessons learned in the home are those that last the longest. On Lds.org there are resources available in helping to make your Family Home Evenings successful, here is a link to that site on Family Home Evenings.

Invite a member of the family member say the prayer

Family Home Evening Instruction:

Give each family member a square piece of paper and a pair of scissors, invite them to fold the paper and cut pieces out of it to create a snowflake. When everyone is done, open them up. Ask your family if the snowflakes look all the same, or if each snowflake is different?  Explain that each snowflake is unique, just as we are.

Further explain that our Heavenly Father loves us so much, he has given us talents and abilities. These are precious gifts given to us.  Each of these talents and abilities are unique. We are each uniquely different from each other.  Elder W. Craig Zwick said, "Each person has unique gifts, and each needs to contribute as well as receive." (October 1995 Ensign, "Encircled in the Savior's Love")

These talents, abilities and gifts can be used to bless others and to further our Father's work.  Explain that as a snowflake falls to the ground with thousands of other snowflakes, they can be gathered and formed into a ball, rolled-up and created into something great, a beautiful towering snowman.  We like the snowflakes can give of our talents and abilities and contribute to making something great. We are each important, each needed in building our Father's kingdom.

Play the song, Glorious.

Explain just as the song says, we are each needed to play our part in the symphony of life. We each have a purpose. Explain that the adversary would want us to believe that we are not important, that we are ugly, or don't have as many or as good of talents as others. That is simply not true.

Play the video, Our True Identity

Invite your family members to think of talents they have, or talents they would like to develop and how they can use them to serve others. Invite them to write them on their snowflakes. Remind your family that, as we serve other's we serve God. (Matthew 25:45)
Close by sharing testimonies.

Close with a Family Prayer.
