Family Home Evening on Continually Improving Ourselves: (Based on the General Conference talk, "What Lack I Yet?"

For tonight's Family Home Evening the topic in which I have chosen is:

Continually Improving Ourselves: (Based on the General Conference talk, "What Lack I Yet?")

Preparation: I hope and pray that you can use these ideas as a guideline and adjust them to the needs of your own specific family.  Our prophet President Monson says, "We cannot afford to neglect this heaven-inspired program. It can bring spiritual growth to each member of the family, helping him or her to withstand the temptations which are everywhere. The lessons learned in the home are those that last the longest. On Lds.org there are resources available in helping to make your Family Home Evenings successful, here is a link to that site on Family Home Evenings.

Invite a member of the family member say the prayer

Discuss any family business

Follow-up with last weeks FHE.

Family Home Evening Instruction:

Show your family a picture of them when they were a baby. Ask them if they think that when the were born they were born with all of the experience and knowledge that they needed? Then ask them if they think that right now in their lives, do they have all the knowledge and experience they need, have they met their potential. Do they have more experience and knowledge then they did when they were a baby?

Invite your family to listen to the following General Conference Talk by Elder Larry R. Lawrence, "What Lack I Yet?" (If you'd like you could summarize the talk, or pick parts out of the talk which you would like to show your family) Discuss the talk as a family.

Show each of your family member's their Continuous Progression Journal (See Below). Explain that we always have something that we can work on, something we can become better at, or something we can overcome.  Invite each family member to choose something each month they are going to work on. Invite them to write it at the top of the page and write the steps they are going to take or the things they are going to do to work on that the thing they chose. Invite them to use the journal to record their progress, to write their thoughts and feelings in and to share their experience.  Explain that you are inviting them to use this journal throughout the year. Explain that as we work on becoming better, we will need to rely on our Savior and Heavenly Father. With their help we will be able to overcome anything and be able to reach our potential, it is a continuous process! (For younger children, help them come up with things to work on. Invite them to draw pictures of how they will work on it)

Close with a Family Prayer.

Continuous Progression Journal:

Here is the Free PDF Download to help you make this journal:
It prints out as an 8-1/2 by 11, so it can be glued onto a standard spiral bound notebook. Or you could cut on the dotted lines and glue it to a composition book.
