Visiting Teaching Idea for November 2015 and Handout {Free Printables}

I love the months we as Visiting Teachers get to pick a General Conference talk and share it with our sisters, that we visit.  Sometimes I think we choose a particular talk because somewhere in it there is something that a sister you visit needs to hear. So, how to go about choosing from all of the amazing talks from this past General Conference??

First: Pray about it! Pray to know which talk to choose, which talk is what your sister needs to hear.

Then: Look at the list of talk titles.  Here is a link to October 2015 General Conference Talks. Seek that inspiration.

Here are some talks that I think would be excellent to share with the sisters, as well as my thoughts on each:

            As women, sometimes I think we forget WHO we really are.  The thing I love about the Young Women Program is the emphasis that each young women is a beloved DAUGHTER of GOD!  I remember a few years back yearning for that to be a focus in my life again. I am not just simply a women, not only a mother and wife, but also a daughter of God, with divine potential. This is why I love this talk! It is so important for each women to recognize this in herself, to see that divine potential. I love this quote from the talk, "Elaine Cannon, a former Young Women general president, said, “There are two important days in a woman’s life: The day she is born and the day she finds out why.”" (Elaine Cannon, in “‘Let Me Soar,’ Women Counseled,” Church News, Oct. 17, 1981, 3.)

             What I love about this talk is how President Uchtdorf began it. He said, "I invite you to listen with the Spirit. The Holy Ghost will help you to find the message for you in this parable."  The other day a member of our Stake Presidency told us that after listening to this talk he discussed it with the girls in his office, he was amazed to find that each of the girls got something different out of the talk, it was different than what he got out of it. He then spoke to his brother and his brother also received a different message from it.  I felt the spirit strongly during his talk and know that each person that listened truly did have the Holy Ghost help them receive the message that was meant specifically for them.

            In both having an amazing mother and being a mother, this talk spoke to my heart.  I look at my mom, she put her whole heart, might and soul into loving, teaching and parenting each of her children. She continues to do so, because there is never an end to a mother's calling. She will eternally be my mother. As I am eternally my children's mom. I love this quote by Elder Holland, "..this is a sacred trust of the highest order."  Think of how precious each of us is to our Heavenly Father and what a sacred calling it is to raise one of his spirit children.  As moms we can be so hard on ourselves. Feeling we have not done good enough. As Elder Holland states that we are doing much better than we think we are.

            Do we as women recognize how IMPORTANT we ARE!! We are important in our communities, we are important in our homes, and we are important in the church!! On the councils I have served on, I have always felt my thoughts, words, efforts and inspirations mattered! This talk makes me want to be an even better covenant keeping woman. To live my life closer to the Savior, so I will know the will of the Lord, so I can help further his work on the world today.

            What a beautiful talk! My very favorite part of this talk is this quote, "Sisters, I do not know why we have the many trials that we have, but it is my personal feeling that the reward is so great, so eternal and everlasting, so joyful and beyond our understanding that in that day of reward, we may feel to say to our merciful, loving Father, “Was that all that was required?” I believe that if we could daily remember and recognize the depth of that love our Heavenly Father and our Savior have for us, we would be willing to do anything to be back in Their presence again, surrounded by Their love eternally."  I wholeheartedly agree that though our trial many be extremely difficult, the reward for enduring them well, is well worth anything we may have to experience!
            Isn't a wonderful thing to know that we are on the Lord's side. That part of our purpose here on this earth is to serve him righteously. SERVICE!!! What a fabulous action word. We serve righteously as we fulfill our callings and love the people we serve in our callings. We serve righteously as we love and nurture our children and help them gain a relationship with their Father in Heaven. We serve righteously when we are a sincere friend to a sister we are asked to visit teach in the word. As we recognize her as a daughter of God and love her for the person she is. We serve righteously as we courageously share this precious gift of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I testify that as we serve righteously, our very soul will be bursting with Joy!

  5. I love that you reminded the sisters to pray, and then pick the talks. It's always so hard though to pick just one talk. Your quotes that you picked were great. Thanks for sharing!
