Family Home Evening on Being Thankful Everyday {12 Days of Gratitude}

For tonight's Family Home Evening the topic in which I have chosen is:

Family Home Evening on Being Thankful Everyday {12 Days of Gratitude}

Preparation: I hope and pray that you can use these ideas as a guideline and adjust them to the needs of your own specific family.  Our prophet President Monson says, "We cannot afford to neglect this heaven-inspired program. It can bring spiritual growth to each member of the family, helping him or her to withstand the temptations which are everywhere. The lessons learned in the home are those that last the longest. On Lds.org there are resources available in helping to make your Family Home Evenings successful, here is a link to that site on Family Home Evenings.

Family Home Evening Instruction:

Begin by playing the video, "In the Spirit of Thanksgiving"

After the video, ask your family why they think it is important to have and attitude of gratitude each and everyday, to recognize what they have and to be thankful for it?

Show your family the Paper Cornucopia (see printable above). Explain that from now until thanksgiving you would like to fill the cornucopia up with all of the things you as a family are thankful for.  Give each family member a piece of paper. Invite them to write something they are thankful for. Then have them crumple the paper up, so it looks like a piece of fruit and place it into the cornucopia.  Explain that each day, you would like them to come up with another thing they are grateful for, write it on a piece of paper, crumple it up and place it inside of the cornucopia.

Then on Thanksgiving, gather as a family and read all of the papers that are inside of the cornucopia.

Close by sharing testimonies of being thankful.

Close with a Family Prayer.

Want a fun idea for a treat???

Give each family member a small cornucopia and have a bunch of small treats available that they can fill it up with. You can either use the printable above, of the small cornucopias or you could use a small plate to make the cornucopia.
