Preparation: I hope and pray that you can use these ideas as a guideline and adjust them to the needs of your own specific family. Our prophet President Monson says, "We cannot afford to neglect this heaven-inspired program. It can bring spiritual growth to each member of the family, helping him or her to withstand the temptations which are everywhere. The lessons learned in the home are those that last the longest." On Lds.org there are resources available in helping to make your Family Home Evenings successful, here is a link to that site on Family Home Evenings.

Family Home Evening Instruction:
Begin by telling the following story:
"At night Becky sat in her bed thinking about what had happened earlier that day. Her mom had asked Becky to come and sit by her when she had come home from school. She could tell by the concerned look on her mother's face that something bad had happened. Her mom quietly explained to her that her pet dog Franny had been hit by a car and had passed away. Immediately, a lump rose and rested in her throat and her eyes began to swell with tears. Franny was such a good dog. She always ran to greet Becky when she returned home from school, she was always there to play with and was so loving. Becky was really going to miss Franny now that she was gone.
Becky felt so sad inside, even feeling like a piece of her was missing, gone with Franny. As Becky sat there she remembered learning in Primary about Jesus Christ's Atonement. That He not only suffered for everybody's sins, but also felt their sorrow and pain. She remembered learning that Jesus had experienced those sorrows and the he is always there to give comfort. She thought about her big warm blanket that lay on her bed and how good it feels when she wraps it around her. The warmth and comfort that comes from it. She decides to say a prayer to Heavenly Father. In her prayer she asks Heavenly Father for comfort. When she finishes her prayer she feels better. She is still going to miss Franny. But she feels warm, she knows that Jesus is there to give her comfort. She begins to think of the happy memories that she and Franny had, had. Like being wrapped in her warm blanket, she feels peace, love and happiness."
Explain that our Savior loves us so much, he not only suffered for our sins, but also for our pains and sorrows. He is there to comfort us, to help us feel peace and love.
Read President Uchtdorf's message, "Encircled in His Gentle Arms".
Invite family members to share ways they have felt the comfort that comes from the Atonement.
Close by sharing your testimony.
Close with a Family Prayer.
How to Make Warm Fuzzy Critters:
What Needed:
Pom Pom 1 1/2 inch diameter
Felt
Heart Feet Pattern
Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Two Googly eyes
How to:
Print and cut out the heart pattern. Trace it onto some felt and cut out.
Place glue in the middle of the felt heart and place the pom pom on top.
If making the critter for a girl, you could add a felt bow. Just cut out a bow tie shape out of the felt, they some embroidery sting around it and glue onto the top of the pom pom. Place some glue on the back of each googly eye one at at time and glue into place. If you would like you could add a magnet to the back.
Here is our Warm Fuzzy Family :)
