February 2015 Sharing Time Topic: Jesus Christ Is My Savior and Redeemer

February 2015 Scripture: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

February Week 2 Topic: Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, all mankind may be saved.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine.

Sharing Time Instruction:

Begin sharing time by placing a pathway on the board (See printable below). Purposely leave a gap in the pathway. At the top of the pathway right "Destination". Place a little paper person at the bottom of the pathway. Ask the children if the paper person could make it all of the way to their destination while walking on the pathway? Explain that the little paper person represents us and the pathway represents our way back to our Heavenly Father. Because we are mortal and we make mistakes/sin. We need help to make it back to our Heavenly Father. Invite a child to come up and place the bridge over the gap. Explain that that through the Savior and his Atonement we are able to overcome our sins and be forgiven. The atonement "saves" us from our sins.

Show the children the month theme poster and invite them to repeat the phrase with you, "Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, all mankind may be saved."

Show the children the movie, "The Savior Suffers in Gethsemane", you may only want to show it until after his suffering and before the men come to get him.

After the video, explain the Jesus suffered for every pain, sorrow, and sin of every person. The pain was so extreme that he bled from every pore. He was the only one who could have done this for us and he did it because he loves each one of us. It was the only way that he would know how to comfort us. It was also the only way that we could be saved from our sins.

Invite the primary children to share their thoughts and feelings about the atonement and close with your testimony of the Atonement.
