Family Home Evening on Preparing Ourselves for LDS General Conference

I love to have a Family Home Evening with my family the Monday preceding General Conference, about how we can prepare ourselves for conference.

Here is a link to a Family Home Evening I did before April 2014 conference:

Family Home Evening on Preparing To Get the Most Out of General Conference

My children enjoyed this Family Home Evening and yes even at their young ages I still had them fill out the Question and Answer Sheet. I am glad I did, because I think it helped them to listen more intently for an answer. At the end of conference they each had answers on their sheets.

Here is an outline I am planning on using for tonight:

LDS General Conference Preparation and Printables

I get so excited every time the first of April and the first of October roll around. Because that means, I get to be instructed by the prophet and his apostles and leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It also means I can receive personal revelation myself as I listen and ponder their words.

I thought I would share some ideas on preparation and some printables that can help keep the kiddos engaged.

I'll let you in on my secret....

I keep having people ask me how I have time to do everything. The SECRET is.... I don't!  If someone took a trip to my house right now and walked into every room and every cupboard, they would be a witness to my words and I would also be very embarrassed.  It's not that I don't want to have a perfectly organized, clean, everything in it's proper place house, it's just that there are only 24 hours in the day to fit everything in.  I guess the other secret is that I must be really good at looking like I have it all together, and I am excellent at straitening an area if someone is expected to show up.

So, let's look at how many hours we have to accomplish the things we need to do and the things we want to do.

EVERYONE HAS 24 HOURS IN A DAY.  There is no trick, there is no secret to getting more hours in a day.  We need at least 8 of those hours in sleep at night, though rarely do we actually get that. That means nothing is getting done in those 8 hours except our bodies getting rejuvenated or recharging for the next day.  So, let's just take those 8 hours away from the 24 right now. Now, we are down to 16 hours... ahhh.

What needs to fit into those 16 hours????  So much, in my case that things get carried over to the next day and the next and it has this snowball effect where eventually I have this huge snowball of things to do.

September 2014 Scripture:  “We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things” (Articles of Faith 1:13).

Flood the Earth by SYT Challenge...

One of my friends in my ward, Lashele, had the amazing idea of creating the SYT (Share Your Testimony) challenge. She videoed herself, bearing her testimony and submitted the challenge to some of her friends, to also share their testimony either by video or by writing it on Facebook. What a wonderful way to, "...sweep the earth as with a flood.", as Elder Bednar said in his address, "To Sweep the Earth as with a Flood" during BYU education week, August 2014.
