As I read the title of August's Visiting Teaching Message, I decided that I needed to look up and read more about the word Messiah. I came upon a quote from G. Homer Durham from the April 1984 Conference, he states, "...Jesus the Christ, the One chosen before the foundation of the world...". Christ and Messiah have the same meaning, "the anointed".
Before this world was created our elder brother Jesus volunteered and was chosen to be our Savior. Through the atonement of Jesus Christ, we are saved from our sins, we are perfected through him. He has paid the price and redeemed us. There is no other way, but by him that we will be able to obtain eternal life with our Father in Heaven. July's topic was advocate. As I have thought more about the Savior as my advocate, I have thought of him as my friend. The person that will stick by me always, and will fight for my place in the eternities.
The more I learn of the Savior the closer my relationship is with him and the more appreciation I have for the role he plays in my life. I am grateful to him for the price he paid personally for all my imperfections and pains. I am grateful that because of his atoning sacrifice, I can overcome my faults through repentance. I know that whatever sorrows or pains I go through, the Savior has felt them also. He knows what I am going through and is there to help me through the tough times. I know he loves me and I am grateful for his perfect example. I know that by him and through him I can return to live with my Father in Heaven. It will be an amazing day, when the Savior comes to earth in all of his glory. I have a firm testimony that Jesus is the Christ, he came as a baby born in a stable and is the son of God. I know in my heart that he lead a perfect life, leading us by example. He atoned for all of the pains and sins of all people, was crucified and was resurrected. The only possible way that he could have done that is that he is the son of God, the Christ, the Messiah.
I love this quote from the August 2014 Visiting Teaching Message, Ensign:
"[Jesus Christ] is the Savior and Redeemer of the world,” said President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Second Counselor in the First Presidency. “He is the promised Messiah. He lived a perfect life and atoned for our sins. He will ever be at our side. He will fight our battles. He is our hope; He is our salvation; He is the way.”
