For tonight's Family Home Evening the topic in which I have chosen is: Applying the Messages and Directions of the Prophet into our lives. This past weekend we had the opportunity to listen to the guidance and direction given to us by our Heavenly Father, through our prophet and leaders of our church. I knew that I wanted to do tonight's Family Home Evening on how we can take the direction given and apply it into our lives. To act on the words that were said. This is how we truly follow the prophet. This Family Home Evening will also fulfill one of the requirements in the "Faith in God booklet, Learning and Living the Gospel: Read a recent conference address given by the prophet. Decide what you can do to follow the prophet, and do it."
Preparation: Before hand prepare to show President Monson's talk from the Sunday, April 6, 2014, Morning Session or President Monson's talk from the Saturday, April 5, 2014 Priesthood Session. Prepare to allow each member to come up with a plan to follow the prophet's direction. In preparation, I would suggest you read this article, "What Is a Living Prophet?" by, PRESIDENT A. THEODORE TUTTLE Of the First Council of the Seventy, July 1973 Ensign Magazine.
Sing: "We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet" Hymnal pg 19
Have a member of the family member say the prayer
Discuss any family business
Follow-up with last weeks FHE.
Introduce this weeks Topic: Applying the Messages and Directions of the Prophet into our lives
Scripture: Read and Mark: Mosiah 2:41
Article of Faith: # 4- "We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost."
Family Home Evening Instruction:
Begin you Family Home Evening by reading this scripture:
"D&C 1:38- What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same."
Explain that, "A prophet, then, is the authorized representative of the Lord. While the world may not recognize him, the important requirement is that God speaks through him. A prophet is a teacher. He receives revelations from the Lord. " ("What Is a Living Prophet?" by, PRESIDENT A. THEODORE TUTTLE Of the First Council of the Seventy, July 1973 Ensign Magazine.)
Ask each family member to listen to the following direction given by our current prophet, President Monson. Ask them that as they listen, that they will think about how they can follow and apply the direction given, into their life.
Show the video, President Monson's talk from the Sunday, April 6, 2014, Morning Session
or President Monson's talk from the Saturday, April 5, 2014 Priesthood Session.
After the video give each family member a paper, "How I plan to apply the prophet's direction into my life". Have each family member fill it out, if they need help, help them. Discuss ways as a family that you can work together to follow the direction of the prophet.
Now, would also be a great time to follow-up, to see if you family member's found the direction and inspiration to the questions they came to conference with seeking answers to. Share testimonies on the spirit felt during conference and feelings felt as they received their answers.
Bear testimonies on the importance of Applying the Messages and Directions of the Prophet into our lives.
Close with a Family Prayer.
